At least five of the foreign prisoners freed without being considered for deportation have committed more serious crimes, it is understood.

The Lib Dems say the information comes from a statement drawn up by Home Secretary Charles Clarke.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Just been watching the statement on the news, it doesn't look good. Im not sure if Charles Clarke will keep his job, but i think this "black Friday" and "black Wednesday" might effect Labour in the council elections.

That's it?

(and those 'serious' crimes included 'drug offences' which may not have been especially 'serious' afterall)

A "thorough search" of records has taken place, he said, but it had revealed no cases where offenders had been convicted of the most serious offences such as homicide, rape or child sex offences.

"I can tell you that this search has to date revealed five cases where an individual has been convicted since their release from prison of offences relating to drugs, violent disorder, grievous and actual bodily harm," Mr Clarke said.

Now that obviously isn't 'good', but, to make a vast mountain out of it is hardly accurate either.

Somehow I can't help thinking all those absurd 'melt down' stories we were treated to last week are just so much wishful thinking (from those day dreaming opponents).

That's it?

Yeah, maybe its not bad.

Letting dangerous prisoners out is Labour going back to its socialist roots

OK infinite, you wish to make some - evidence free - daft claim that there is a 'general truth' that Labour (hardly especially 'socialist' these days) = revolving doors on prisons or no prison at all.

Perhaps you missed the latest Cameron-esque revisions by your tory pals? -

'Prison isn't working', says Tory

The Tories have pledged to revamp Britain's prison system to cut re-offending saying it was "wasting lives and wasting money".
Tory prisons spokesman Edward Garnier told The Times he had been on a "massive voyage of discovery" since taking over his brief.

Taking from your link;

so that it does rehabilitate people and in every area

rehabilitate is different from letting non-British national criminals, who are supposed to be deported, back on to the streets to commit crimes which 5 have done. Some of the crimes are believed to be serious, one rape and 900 have still not been found. If thats not "revolving doors on prisons" policy, then i dont know what it is

(hardly especially 'socialist' these days)

To think Ramsey McDonald built the Labour party on socialism
You would think a Labour party would be a labour party. (Galloway wrote a nice article on it...which is a suprise). I remember when the Labour party was working class.....

Five thats it !!!!
thats FIVE too many, and since this thread was posted i think the figures have risen?

Anyway lets take it on the basis that it is 5, that is 5 that they (gov) know about, this whole thing is completley OUT OF CONTROL.
These convicts are guests whether illegal or not in our country (and sminkey(hello by the way) yes it is our country and should be deprted upon release NO questions! NO if's or buts! NO what if this happens when they go back to their own country........
We have enough to do when our own countrymen are repeat offenders let alone have to worry about people from another country, whom we dont really know the true identity of in the first place, we dont know where they are going to live upon release, etc...

There is no monitoring of these offenders this has been proven!!!

- The trouble with that kind of faux 'nostalgia' is that it is irrelevant. I'm sure there are a lot of things tories look back upon fondly, being the dominant part in power during the post war period in particular I'm sure.

Labour are more akin to a 'Social Democrat' party now.......and from their repeated political successes that seems to be in tune with what the people prefer to choose, again and again.

But I do find your 'revolving doors' comment amusing, a handful of incidents (where the root of the problem in many instances is simply that the Home Office & related agencies have not carried out the laid down instructions and procedures properly) is hardly proof of a party 'soft on crime'.

In fact the truth is that the usual complaint from opposition people & parties is quite the opposite and that they are too severe and taking too much of a 'tabloid pleasing' hard-line.

Some true-believers here will even try and tell you they are knowingly and deliberately engineering the fascist 'freedom-free' state as we type!

- The correct terminology would be that 'up until now there has been inadequate monitoring of this process'.

But it is thanks to this Labour government that we, firstly, know about it at all (they are the first to collect the stats) and secondly that a proper process of assessment will be put in place.

You might not like the situation that is being revealed at the beginning of the 'process' but it is only because of this government that there is a 'process' at all .....and one to be improved and built upon in future.
