Former Warsaw Pact Bulgaria to allow 3 US bases to be built for 2,500 US personnel. These bases offer the US a MAJOR strategic advantage in the Balkan region for operations in the Middle East and others area’s. The article also mentioned a similar deal signed with Romania last December.

I see this as very good news. The Balkans offer terrorist groups a wide range of benefits and has been suspected of being home to a number of terrorist’s safe havens. Loose border restrictions and ready access to weapons make the Balkan region a terrorist utopia. And now Uncle Sam is setting up shop in their backyard!

This deal will allow the USA to operate in other countries from these bases without specific permission from Bulgarian officials. That’s huge.

Kudos to Condi!

Miss Rice, who leaves on a trip to the Balkans today, is expected to sign a broad defense-cooperation agreement with the new NATO ally that would authorize the stationing of foreign forces on its soil for the first time in its 1,325-year history, U.S. and Bulgarian officials said.
The final draft of the agreement, which was seen by The Washington Times, allows the United States to deploy troops from the bases for missions in third countries without the specific permission of the Bulgarian authorities…
