In my little town gas just hit $3 a gallon for regular. Now I know that isn’t bad at all compared to the rest of the world. What we pay is nothing compared to Europe

What really is needed is an alternative to crude oil. This isn’t going to happen tomorrow or next week or even in the next year. And there’s nothing any of us can do about it.
There is just too much money in oil for things to change very fast.

What can we do to lower prices by lowering demand?

First off, Drive less! Walk or bike whenever you can.
Drive slower and be steady on the gas.
At city speeds roll down windows and turn off the A/C
At highway speeds roll up windows and use the A/C at a low setting
Remove excess luggage, stereo equipment, bike/luggage racks
Make sure all regular scheduled maint. is done:
PROPERLY INFLATE YOUR TIRES, Rotate tires, and don’t drive with a bad alignment
A dirty air filter can cost you 2mpg
Ignition problems (Plugs, Wires, Ignition Module) can cost you as well.
Wash your damn car

And for you SUV drivers, what’s the point of having seating for 7 when you drive alone all day? The only reason why you need something like a suburban is if you have 5 kids and need to tow 6k LBS

You don’t have to drive a Hybrid to get good MPG. They made cars in the 70`s that got 50MPG. A 79 Dodge colt could get 50MPG, and that a realist number, unlike what you get today.
With some (not so easy) mods you could improve on that number

My family can get by with 20 gallons of gas a month, I can cut back as needed. I have decided not to buy a damn thing from any gas station other than gas. I can buy charcoal, Cigarettes, lighters, Lotto tickets, or whatever other places for less.

Any other ideas?

You're thinking Letres I believe. 3$ a gallon is approximately 75 cents a Letre so 3 bucks a gallon is really not that much.

1 litre = 0.264172051 US gallon

It's around 95-105 cents per litre. Which is way high, when taken into consideration that we are a net exporter of Oil.

I don't mind though as all that will mean is less SUV's on the road. With less gas guzzlers and more fuel efficient cars the price should start to go back down again.

It costs us like £5.20 a gallon here in the UK, which is like $9-$10. So i have no idea what you have to winge about realy. Especialy since i only get like 20mpg on the Motorway (freeway) and Like 7mpg in Town.

Honestly i dont think you guys realise how good you have it when it comes to fule prices.

Good point. I guess that kind of puts a damper on any argument im gonna make

You pay more for auto petrol than we pay for AVgas over here

I read someplace that %60 of the cost of fuel in Europe is just for taxes.
That sounds alittle steep to me...But why else is it so expensive over there?
To people outside the USA: could you please tell me how much gas (or diesel for that matter) has gone up in your area in the past 5 or 6 years? Demand simply cannot be as high as the US, being all the morons in there giant SUVs riding around and etc
