Luckily, your tax dollar has already provided a solution here: Public libraries have in-person and online (i.e., web site and Instant Messaging) advice on What To Read Next. In the library world, that is referred to as Readers Advisory services. Recently they have expanded their advice from fiction works to include non-fiction as well. So check it out!
