Thanx for the Bloomberg link... Republican Authority. 16 days until Iran can produce a nuke? What do they "know" that we don't? This one has a yikes-factor of about 9.9. I wonder if/when they'll ramp up the Defcon. 16 days? I guessed/felt this Friday afternoon would be the day. I want to be wrong.

WooHOO! Thanx Zed! I was almost out the door headed for cover! That takes the pressure off for today and I don't need to apologize to jimrat for not initially believing him. Still I think we're headed for trouble jimrat or not. That Bloomberg link freaked-me-out.

[It is agains the rules of the UN for member nations to threaten war upon one another. The United States has not actually threatened IRan, it has, in all public speeches, called for a diplomatic solution, unlike say, iran, that has called for Israel to be destroyed, for example.

Not for nothing but Israel has been accusing Iran of creating WMD's and buying WMD's for quite some time now. I wouldn't say that threatening to cross a border and drop a bomb on another country was a big show of love either. Looking from as far back as 1998 Israel has been constantly shouting that Iran was only 2 years away from making long range ballistic missiles and that they were smuggling nuclear warheads from Russia. The pot is calling the kettle black since Israel smuggled in heavy water through Norway amongst other things. It was the greed of one Israels own citizens that sold Iran Chemical weaponry who is now serving 16 years in Israeli prison from back in the late 90's as well. Lets not place the blame on one entity here

Here's something for you to think about...If it weren't for the US and its allies, there's a good probability that you would be fluent in German and / or Japanese.

Sometimes a 'bully' is on the right side ya know!

Iran needs to shut down its nuclear program completely...now!

The USA was not the only one to fight against the Axis. Get a grip.

Zed et al. If you review the initial post, this individual never claims to be located in the EU. It appears that they simply are acting as a "message forwarder". Albeit, the forwarded message was neither quoted or attributed appropriately.

We've been hearing that the IRan attack is in 'the next two weeks' for about three or four months now.

Here is some information, official information anyways, on the guy making the 'They can have a nuke in 16 days' claim
www.state.gov...

Which is a pretty bizzare claim that is almost certainly baseless. Everyone that has actually looked into the situation, what iran has, what they can do with it, etc, that actually knows anything about nuke tech, has clearly noted that they are minimally months upon months away, if not years.

This guy doesn't seem to be a nuke technician. It says he got three degrees (all from the same university, which is something peopel try to avoid normally), a BS, but it don't say what in, a JD (he's a lawyer) and a Masters in Foreign Affairs (which means he is a good guy to go to to talk about iran, but not to talk about iran's nuke tech programme's abilities).

He is also a member of the Order of the Coif, which sounds like an evil society of hairdressers.

Ahhh, well...it was not that clear to me. I hear you though.

Besides that. Consider the world opinion of the USA. Consider the opinion of the Bush Admin and the handling of various matters (Iraq, 9/11, Katrina).

Does anyone really think that dropping a nuke on "administrative, civilian, nuclear and militarily strategic facilities in Iran" is even an option on the table?

OK. So Iran claims 164 gas-centrifuges that can reprocess to 3.5% purity.
If, as the Bloomberg article purports that 50,000 of these devices in service 24/7 could make enough fissionable material to produce an "unspecified yield per device" nuke every 16 days at Natanz. With 164 this'll take awhile... and I'm not gonna do the math. Perhaps they have these spinners in unannounced storage. I'm thinkin not.
Gee what if they already have weapons grade materials from the mythical oft-named unconfirmed "missing 200". Uh, wouldn't they, couldn't they take those materials from cold-war era "missing fissionable inventory" and anneal and reshape and machine those materials for use in this recent new-to-them "MIRV" capability we've heard about on ATS? Hmmm.
Seems like an incredible short cut to nukes, and if I was them (I'm not) I'd have tried to procure such materials in the breakaway post-Soviet republics and "stans" that have a population element perhaps not unfriendly to the Iranian experience. Money in the bank.
From '79 on through the 90's the Ayatollah Khomeini (forgive my spelling) and his successors could write their own ticket when doling out aid to the "stans" and republics... maybe they got what they wanted material-wise long ago and are now only able to use the technology to retask this material.
At this point I really, really hope somebody figures a way out of this mess without shootin'.
Nukes - if this is comin' down there's some deadly serious folks - best this planet can produce - gettin' ready to do what I was raised to think was - UNTHINKABLE - writ large.
Crap, I thought my Grampa and Dad, Mom and elder Sister served in WW1, 2, and Korea to prevent exactly this.
I support my nation's commitment in Afganistan - but only as peackeepers and PRT's - if 43 does the UNTHINKABLE - she's all bets off. Brave New World time... This Canuck'll be trustin' no one - full stop. Get them Maple Leaf boys and girls home - gonna need 'em.
And if 43 uses conventional weapons... I still won't like it one bit but if it stops the Iranian N-device capability forever then by all (conventional) means do it. Make it swift and minimize the loss of life.
I'm so afraid that the Genie is out of the bottle... I can't believe I'd ever see the day that I thought the East-West "MAD" doctrine was secure and reasonable.
How in the heck have we allowed this to happen? Who should I be upset with besides myself? It's a big smoke and mirrors nebulous-ephemeral-writhing-bundle-of-snakes but I'll figure it out.

I'll wait until we can get some confirmation on this before i make any judgements. With the recent announcements from Iran such actions by our government would seem reasonable given their past behaviour.

Got this off Xinhua - it's tomorrow in Tehran and well - Is this it? The last best hope? Seems - well, unrobust and timid. Nukes - I curse the discovery.
news.xinhuanet.com...
What can the IAEA do? How will Iran react? Will it matter a lick to America?
Is it all over but the receipt and authentication of launch codes?

Just like a few years ago our controlled media is prepping us for another armed conflict. Just after the invasion and bombing of Afghanistan...the media began to pepper the airways with big Iraq headlines...they slowly increased coverage ofraq and we eventually attacked...here we go again with Iran...Am I the only one who sees these patterns? Am I the only one?
