Who killed America?

Which conspiracies have killed America? The country is bogged down in foreign wars. The national debt is out of control. What needs to be done to save lady liberty and Uncle Sam? Does anyone really care or are we happy with a frozen dinner and the six oclock news?

The communist conspiracy to infiltrate the American education system and turn it into a giant ruined mess. From the Ivy Leagues on down to your local middle school, communist philosophy has been normalized to children who would have grown up free from the idea that the goverment was the answer to their problems.

The same sorts of "normal" americans McArthy went after. He was right about every single person he outed but the media had him run out of town. That was just the beginning...

Ben Franklin, when asked what kind of government the founders had created said, "A Republic---if you can keep it".
Rember, historically speaking, a republic is hard to keep going. they usually succumb to tyrany at some point. Rome is probably the best example.
For some reason people almost always tend to slide toward a monarchy or
despotism of some degree or another.
That being said, I think the greatest "enemies" we have are those pushing for some sort of socialism, whether it's communism or fascism. These philosophies are the antithesis of a true republic and/or democracy. The amazing thing to me is that socialism, of whatever ilk, is almost always a dismal failure. Why they (us) continue to allow it to germinate here is a complete mystery to me.....

Success. When the Second World War ended, the United States was the “last guy standing.” America had “over half” of every measured commodity or capacity in the whole dam world. Except people. Of which we have consistently had about 5%.

The Great Depression and the Second World War taught us to share, to sacrifice, to put everything ahead of material goods. We fed hobo’s in exchange for a couple hours work. We had worked hard during the war. Everywhere we were encouraged to save “10%” in war bonds. Movie theaters which routinely showed double features paused between films to turn on the lights and ask you to come to the refreshment stand to buy war bonds ($18.75 for a $25 bond) or savings stamps, sold in 5 cents and 25 cents denominations. One time a month, school children were urged to buy stamps which went into small booklets which when filled were turned in for a $25 bond, the lowest denomination. Held ten years to become worth the face value.

We had scrap drives. We saved chewing gum wrappers and bacon drippings. We had clothing drives. We had blood drives. My father became a “Five Gallon” donor. The effective minimum wage was $1 an hour although the legal minimum was 50 cents. Many people worked two jobs. Along with most scarce goods, gasoline was rationed, 3 gallons a month for an A sticker. To get a tire you had to appear in person before a 3 man Ration Board and explain yourself. The national speed limit was 35 mph. And etc.

Post War. Americans freely and cheerfully donated to a quasi government organization known as CARE - Committee for American Relief to Europe - which was stenciled on each box, hence became known as CARE packages which were sent to Europe and Asia . By the boatload. A CARE package contained such items as flour, shortening, canned milk, salt, sugar, pepper, coffee, cloth, thread, needles, candy, cigarettes, toilet paper, hand towels, soap, and so on. The dispossessed in Europe - and there were millions - would line up to receive a CARE package once a week. The US government made up any shortfall in funds. Just imagine how we could help peope in Darfur (and elsewhere) with 2006 CARE packages? One package per family, per week. Hmm?

The Marshall Plan. The US made the first ever large, long term commitment to foreign aid primarily for our allies in Western Europe to help them resist the temptation to go Communist. Remember, capitalism is a system that requires private capital. Whereas socialism (wrongly called communism) can operate with state capital. (Well, socialists states do not need nearly as much capital as capitalist states. This is one of the appeals for poor countries to become socialistic.)

Racism. But we were still a WASP country. Not in the very large cities, but in RURAL America where most of the population lived. Blacks were held down and exploited by the racist system known as Jim Crow. It was legal. It was the law of the land. In the south of America segregation was de jure, but in the north, it was de facto. Just as bad. Jim Crow had reversed for the most part the gains of emancipation. It was enforced by the Ku Klux Klan, vigalantes and dishonest and disloyal law officers.

Read about Angola Prison in Louisiana, it is as bad as it gets. More than 3,000 blacks were murdered by hanging, called “lynching.” More than 15,000 black men were beaten so badly they never recovered. More than 50,000 black homes were burned in what was routinely called a “burnout.”

Black schools were pitiful. Black schools in Louisville, Ky, had outdoor toilets when I enrolled in elementary school in 1940. Black schools got second hand furniture and second hand books. And teachers although of the best intentions, had less preparation in all black colleges. It was a system where while landlords overcharged and under-served. Where banks “red lined” or “blue lined” whole section of town where blacks could not borrow money but a white landlord could.

Every small town had its country club. It was a WASP center. Jewish people and often Catholics were not welcome at the local country club which was a networking center. Blacks did not have access to hospitals. Medical doctors would not serve them. Blacks had no respect.

This system prevails in 2006 to a disgraceful extent. It is America’s albatross. We cannot get over racism in America. It is our millstone. Our cross to bear. It holds us back in every way, morally, spiritually and ugh, even financially.

And that’s what happened. Success killed America. Lesson? "It is hard for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle."

Dammit! Don't confuse America with her Government! Yeah....I know.....they're supposed to be the same thing....(sigh). I know and admit you are right in some sense darkelf but....that's the problem. We The People need to take back what is ours. We need to walk the straight path and correct the wrongs and get off the sauce. We were obligated by our founders to try and create a More Perfect Union. To become a beacon to the world. We have our faults but we must admit them and try to better ourselves. And yeah...we seem to be failing.
This is starting to become depressing. Are the ideals of America truly dead?

I cannot deny your assertions. I cannot deny your declarations of what is. Does that mean therefore that we should surrender? Have you given up such hope as to submit to whatever befalls you?
I apologize to the OP if my discourse has strayed from the original post. But I believe we must define what we are as Americans and what we stand for before we move onward. Only then can we define: Who is an American? Only then can we define: Who should become American?
In my opinion it is those that believe in American values. American law. American beliefs. And God (whatever God you follow) bless America.

My thoughts.....is it all STARTED with the creation of the INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE........and we have been loosing rights & freedom ever since....

IRS=the beginning of the end.
