Why do I get the feeling this is the perfect attempt at establishing a civilian draft function to coopt as many Americans as needed for conscription labor?

WASHINGTON - Democrat Wesley Clark says if elected president, he would create a corps of civilians who could be called up for service in national emergencies much like the National Guard.

Every American age 18 or older could register for Clark's civilian reserve, listing skills that could aid the country in a disaster. Registration is voluntary and would involve a commitment to serve any time for five years.

In times of national emergency, such as floods, forest fires or terrorist attacks, the president would have the power to call to duty up to 5,000 civilian reservists. Tours would last as long as six months. Congress could authorize more to be mobilized.

Civilian reservists also could be sent overseas for jobs like reconstruction in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Better to make them think they are volunteering than having to actually re-instate the draft.

And people think that electing Bush out of office will fix our nasty problems? Wrong.

Clark is getting the torch passed to him. Tgis whole thing is rather redundant, when you co sider the National guard, Fema, Red Cross, ect already exist, and he wants THIS?

So, what exactly is Americorps for then? These cretins are doing everything they can do trick Americans into becoming NAZI brownshirts - on their own volition. Clark is nothing but a NEO CON in sheep's clothing. The GOP's hedging its bets with him. Here's an editorial on that:

This is a very useful article too, with mucho links concerning Clark:

Yep East Coast.

it really doesnt matter who you vote for, they have both sides in the bag.

Unless America wakes up and starts examining third parties, but that wont happen.

That's the only way we're gonna pull ourselves outta this. It's really creepy, but I always remember my mom quoting Nikita Kruchev: "We will take you without a shot fired." We are crumbling from the inside, just as he predicted. We have ourselves to blame for this, by amusing ourselves to death.
