U.S. Prepares for Airstrikes on Iran, page 1

An article in the Independent newspaper claims that the U.S. is secretly preparing for strikes on Iran, to disable nuclear facilities and provoke tension in the area. According to the informant, the White House views the answer to the Iran issue as a regime change.

While publicly advocating diplomacy to stop Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapon, Hersh reports in the next issue of The New Yorker magazine that "there is a growing conviction among members of the United States military, and in the international community, that President Bush's ultimate goal in the nuclear confrontation with Iran is regime change".

What caught my eye is the paragraph about a test in Nevada with conventional explosives. Apparently they are doing this to simulate the effect of a nuclear bunker-buster. The news of the test was reported before on ATS, and this new information may explain why they are doing it. It seems the preparations for the strikes have already begun.
