You might want to check out a documentary called
Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie. It traces the
development of nuclear weapons from the initial Trinity explosions through to the development of the hydrogen bomb.
It has some excellent reproduced footage of dozens of nuclear tests, including the Trinity test, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki explosions, the first
Soviet nuclear test, the first hydrogen bomb test and the first Chinese nuclear test. It also has some excellent footage of experimental tests,
including underwater detonations:
detonations in space:
and, of course, the much vaunted nuclear cannon:
It's a worthwhile documentary, with a pretty good soundtrack by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. The explosions are stunning in their asthetic appeal
and truly make you appreciate the terrible power of nuclear weapons.
