"He was a bully and a coward. He was the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you," Cruise said. "It was a great lesson in my life--how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then, bang!"

Just when you thought this nut was fading, he comes out with a new one.
IMO he's a nutcase and saying this now to keep all eyes focused on him.

Edited to add link.

Trying to sway public opinion with sympathy perhaps?

Just a thought since I don't know the context of this "revelation".

The less I hear from the mouths of celebrities, the better my day goes.

I thought scientologists had to 'let go' of all this kind of stuff???
Don't they have to 'cleanse' ... using that tin can thing and get
rid of all the bad karma stuff (they have a special name for it
that I can't remember).

If Cruise had scientology 'cleansing' then this wouldn't have
been brought up to the public. He would have moved on,
wouldn't he???

I'm curious about this now .......

If I was his dad I would STILL be beating him on a daily basis.....the little bas***d !!!

To be fair, he's not exactly calling out for sympathy, just stating an unpleasant fact about his childhood. Even if he has dealt with it through his religion, that doesn't wipe his memory of the events... I don't think...

Seems to me (I read the article) like he's using his childhood as a lesson of how NOT to be with his upcoming child. Yes, he's breeding.

I talk about the unpleasantries of my childhood, too. Of course, I don't have a big sequel coming out...

I am sure he's offered his "bride" a huge part in an upcoming movie and megamillions! I am sure he needs to keep himself in the front burners so he can gross the $$$ he wants.

What next?

How can you make that generalization? There may be a certain percentage out there, but to say most have been abused is going overboard.

How do you know?

My grandmother would make ME pick the switch she was going to give me a beating with. You don't see me whining about it. I loved that woman with all my heart.

What in gods name does cruise have to complain about?

Perhaps he's trying to convince people that he's actually a human being. I'm not buying it.

Gotta do better Tom.

I love my parents and they roughed me up also. I deserved it.

I think its like Wuppy said, he's trying to appear human-like.

I would never beat my child

I remember stealing a pack of bubble-Yum when I was really small. We got home from the supermarket, and I was chewiing a piece. When my mom found out I stole it, she whooped my ass, and made me return what was left. and look at me now, aside from a little twitch, I'm all the better for it.

As it was said before, if Tom Cruise were my son, I'd smack the s*** out of him on a regular basis.

On corporal punishment of children: The main lesson that children learn from being beaten by their parents is that it's okay to hit someone, especially if they are smaller than you.

The only time I ever spanked my son was when he was 2 years old and got curious about what was down the driveway from our house... (I had turned my back on him in the yard for about 30 seconds to turn the hose on in order to do some plant watering.) Luckily, I caught up with him just before he got to the roadway. Unluckily, my adrenalin was pumping way too much and I spanked him on his bottom twice with my hand (because I was so terrified...and angry...that he could have been killed). Sigh... he started crying and promptly told me "Mommy, you are a monster." Well, so we went back home and Talked About It. He's now 18, just got accepted to a fine university, etc. While a very outspoken person, he is nonviolent. So far so good.

Want to really make a monster? The stepfather of Adolf Hitler, as well as the father of Josef Stalin, administered a famous amount of frequent -- and exceptionally brutal -- beatings to them when those two dictators were themselves boys, with results that the world will never forget. See the following book by the acclaimed psychology writer Alice Miller:

Thou shalt not be aware: society's betrayal of the child (paperback)

She has also written about 18 other books on this subject. Her books were printed originally in German, but have all been translated into English. On the Amazon web site, you can use the "Look Inside The Book" feature to get the gist of her

I agree his dad was a terrible father. if he had done it right, he wouldn't have STOPPED beating little tommy. Maybe if he had beat him a little harder, he would have knocked some sense into the miserable little b******.

Its not to late. His father can make up for his sins. He can head on down to Hollyweird, attend the filming of MI4 when it comes out, and fit in some beatings during Tommy's breaks between his massages, his auditing sessions, and Botox.
