The DOD (Department of Defense) is seeking a way to have secure access to energy sources that will not be threatened by rising international oil prices. Solution: US Shale oil.

Ran across these:

Who would have thought, eh?
Shale oil could be a very viable answer for the military, as well as commercial for the US.
Thoughts?

interesting link

Let's see, according to the document linked to it is...less polluting (as an end-product)...more efficient...and we have huge amounts of it here at home...hmmmmmm...

I suppose a lot depends on stuff like extraction costs and environmental impact.

Could be good for jobs, though...

Still...maybe a great way to allow us to have a secure supply of fuels, etc. for our military, and allow us to put more emphasis on developing truly clean energy sources for more common use, such as automotive, etc.

I know it's no secret, but we gotta' get un-dependent on the stuff thats killing our planet.

I liked the idea of using the extraction method they described as being part of the Mahogany Project; seems more environmentally friendly, but I don't have any real knowledge to back it up.
