All this talk of revolution (usually called civil war improperly) and none of it mentions the current demonstrations.
source
Immigration rights advocates more than 500,000 strong marched in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, demanding that Congress abandon attempts to make
illegal immigration a felony and to build more walls along the border.
The massive demonstration, by far the biggest of several around the nation in recent days, came as President Bush prodded Republican congressional
leaders to give some illegal immigrants a chance to work legally in the U.S. under certain conditions.
These demonstrations dwarf the current anti-war movement! As I see it, the biggest potential for a civil war (currently) comes from these
protests. What if these laws were passed, and/or someone were to catalyst these demonstrations into violence? Hypothetically, if every illegal
immigrant in the US were to all of a sudden become felons, who's to stop this from escalating?
I don't necessarily believe this will happen, but with all the recent discussion or revolution this seems much more probable the other situations
discussed.

This is bound to cause uprising in this country. This has been somthing that was conscripted to happen. The U.S will have a civil war of a way
diffrent nature soon on its hands. And after the internal war, America will be much diffrent....in a very bad way..

I think that the immigration policies should definitly be paid more attention, I dont think it will go as far as to create a civil war....I mean come
on moslty everyones on the same page, do we want to continue to watch our tax money money go down the drain to illegal immigrants trying to establish
them selves in the U.S. I mean think of those two words themselves...Illegal Immigrants. I dont know whats going to happen in the future but there
has to be a line drawn somewhere. Theres not enough money in america to pay for all the immigrants that want a free ride from our government.

If the protestors want to cut the legs off from under their movement, then let them escalate it into violence. Then they will rightfully bring the
full force and fury of the gov't down on their heads.
It's one thing to voice your opinion on something; it's a much greater thing to raise your hand in violence against the nation that you are trying
to gain acceptance in.

well this could actually happen, have you seen those protests? "whites get off our continent" "go back to europe" and calling texas and
california "aztlan" their ancestral homeland. Things could very quickly reach a boiling point. Also it was estimated were those counties along the
border another state, they would rank the lowest in education and healthcare services. (all of which can be obtained free by illegal immigrants)
vicente fox has DEMANDED and open border policy with the US and services for all illegal aliens.
hillary clinton compared the immigrants to "Jesus Christ"
futhermore, the mexicans feel the treaty of Guadalupe 1846 was unfair.
this is getting terrible and neither party is doing anything about it.

I cant believe that this whole immigration topic isnt getting any play here on ATS. With all the protesting going on i thought that there would be
many active threads on this issue but apparently people arent interested. One thing that i have noticed is that there are no protests that have taken
place in the D.C. area where i live. I will be right out there with friends and family protesting the protesters if there ever are. Im all for
immigrating to the US as long as you do it legally, pay taxes like the rest of us, live with immediate family only, learn the language and culture,
etc.
I think this does have the potential for large upheaval, at least in the major cities. I do think both sides have finally had enough and are willing
to put their foot down on this issue. The laws are clear and its time that they were enforced. Enforcing them is the Key issue here. The laws have
always been around as to what constitutes an illegal and everything that goes with it, but theyve just never been enforced all that much due to
politicians' business buddies making money hand over fist with cheap labor.
We've all been used and its high time it stopped.

From what I understand there's also quite a lot of tension between African-American communities and Latino communities in some areas due to
socio-economic differences and the resentment this creates. Maybe this could also be a source of future civil unrest?

If you live in one of the southwest states you know how bad it is. I don't hate the Mexicans, but what pisses me off is that the Illegals, they come
here, settle down and turn the places they settle down, into little mexicos'. They have higher crime rates, and English is optional. Then their
Illegal Family come over, they house 6-12 people in a 1 bedroom apartment. And more in a house. Thats how bad it has become. I know from expierence,
because I worked 2 days with a cleaning company that went around and cleaned apartments after the Tenants were evicted. 93% was Illegal Imagrants
being deported. The places were flithly, holes in walls etc. Don't get me started on how easy it is for them to get apartments here. They usually
find one family member that is legal and then they ride off them. They don't try to learn English, because they can. No one says anything, in fear of
violently being gang bashed. If you want to live in a foreign country, learn the language. Like I said I don't hate Mexicans I just don't like the
Illegal Mexican problem.

Stunned police had only to sit and watch, as 500,000 protesters hit the streets of L.A. in what turned out to be a perfectly peaceful march Saturday.
City police said there were no incidents or arrests. The demonstration was intended to send a message to Congress that its plans for immigration
reform -- which target immigrants, employers and even Samaritans -- are not well received. "I've been on the force 38 years and I've never seen a
rally this big," said Cmdr. Louis Gray Jr., incident commander for the rally.
A rally this size with no arrests means this isn't about violence. In rallies one tenth the size there is often dozens if not hundreds of arrests.
This is a real nonviolent movement that I think deserves respect.

Very sad to see that many Americans fail to understand the issue of immigration in our country.
Immigrants accounts for almost 10 million people in our nation.
Doing drastic changes to change immigration laws or to make new ones is targeting those millions of people that are already in the US.
This no about borders only, which is what many fail to see.
You can not stop something that has been going on since our nation was founded.
Drastic measure will bring drastic responses.

are you so foolish? or do you live on the east coast in liberal america where these things arent really your concern?
NO! ILLEGAL immigrations has not been going on since our country was founded and this has everything to do with borders.
these people openly said they want to take over a part of your country, and get rid of the "anglos".
BIG corporations, which most people suited to your ideology are supposed to be against, only want these borders to remain the way they are so they can
exploit "slave labor" and you want to allow it!!
Crime rates in the areas these people have settled have exploded. The borders are wide open for drug traficers, sex slave traficers, on and on...
These people march around chanting "La Raza!" do you know what that means?! that means "the Race" and we are supposed to tolerate this crap!? they
hate "gringos" even though they are the gringos.
I just hope the legislation goes through and becomes law.

When a species no longer has any resources in one place it migrates to another. This is how mankind has survived for millions of years. If anyone is
naive enough to think that "government" is going to halt millions of years of evolution, they re mistaken. As long as there are resources available
here people are going to migrate here by any means that will work, illegally or legally. It's survival.

I am a common sense Latino woman and very proud of it
Even your roots are from immigrant descendants, unless you are a native American you are in this country like everybody else, because your
ancestor came in boat.
these people openly said they want to take over a part of your country, and get rid of the "Anglos".
Really it sounds like what the supremacies will say to make their point valid within the supremacies sympathizers.
But wait a moment this what is also been said about Islam and muslin in America they are taking the country too.
BIG corporations, which most people suited to your ideology are supposed to be against, only want these borders to remain the way they are so they can

More garbage when you can not even understand the real issue about the people that are already living in this country 10 million immigrants what you
want to do with them?
They are going nowhere they are here to stay and you better get use to it.
Crime rates in the areas these people have settled have exploded. The borders are wide open for drug traficers, sex slave traficers, on and on...
You really believe this do you, crime, drugs and sex is all the immigrants fault do you.
Denied Ignorance.
El Dia De La Raza, obviously you have no clue what is all about, but here you are Telling me what is all about? I am laughing so hard I have
tears in my eyes.
Dia de la Raza
Definition: Latin Americans and Hispanics celebrate October 12 as the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of the New World.
In the United States it is known as Columbus Day and is observed on the second Monday in October.
The Spanish name means Day of the Race and is a time to remember how the Spanish race, as in people, influenced the world.
La Raza the rich mixture of Spanish and indigenous cultures which characterizes us the latino people, I have Black slave blood,
Taino,Spanish and Italian that is mi Raza.
I see that your education about history and historical facts is as lacking as your education on the history of your own country.
Here is a littler history about the humble beginnings of the new world, but I imagine that you will ignore because is has nothing to do with what you
will like to know.
Pity.

These people march around chanting "La Raza!" do you know what that means?! that means "the Race" and we are supposed to tolerate this crap!? they

Unbelievable that people are still so ignorant of facts. Yes everybody wants US and everybody wants to take this country away from the Anglos.
Maybe you should get some lessons on who is selling this country right now to foreign interest, America doesn't belong to the Americans and has been
like that since China, Saudi Arabia, Asia and many other third world countries has been buying our nation out.
Reality check.
The only folish person here is you.
Viva la Raza!!!!

You're correct about the no violence; don't get the impression that I was saying there was violence. I was just responding to the posts that seemed
to think violence was inevitable.
I sincerely hope that this doesn't degenerate into violence.

I am very surprise that it has not been any reports of violence yet, taking in consideration the amount of people gathering in one place.
But then again why would they be violence when they are just showing that they are in this country as peaceful people looking for a better way of
life.
I am very surprise because when is a lot of people around is always trouble makers that will take advantage of the situation.

I have yet to hear one good reason why we are supposed to throw out the rules for these people. And why isn't everybody upset with Vicente Fox and
his role in this?
They want to come here for the chance of success, jobs, yadda yadda yadda, well, fine, let them come here the legal way. All of these
self-righteous platitudes simply don't cut it.
The only issue I have with 4437 and bills like it is that they try to do too much with one bill. They should do it in steps, based on a strategy.
1. Define illegals and declare them as unwanted.
2. Set penalties
3. Create a strategy for ID'ing them and deporting the lawbreakers.
etc., etc., etc.
If it's done in steps, it can be a workable policy by the time 2008 rolls around.
Don't put all the eggs in one basket.

I agree with you, honestly I agree.
I believe is a problem with the open borders, but this is not limited to our south border but also the north, we have incredible problems with the
smuggling of Chinese and slavery, people have not idea how bad the Chinese immigration is about.
We have babies been smuggle but for some reason is all about the Mexican borders.
I agree with you a police to take care of the borders Now is needed like yesterday.
But a policy and law changes to target the 10 million immigrant in the US is what will take time, not drastic bill will go in the house.
And again will this year elections has to do with all the fuss about the immigrants?
I think so.
Starting with the border is what the government should concentrate first.

Aztlan may be a fantasy an so the lost city of gold and Juan Ponce de Leon fountain of youth, but they are myths and stories of the ancient.
They are part of the ancestry of the new world, and told by the natives inhabitants of these lands.
Before Columbus the people of the north and south of these continents traveled all the time remember it was no border in that time.
We are still looking for Atlantis and we have not find it yet, that doesn't mean that it never existed.
But it was mention in Ancient Greek.
You always going to find activist that may over use historical accounts and myths of ancient to justify or make a point.

There are too many immigrants now there is no need for more. These guys think they can take over the country and looks like they will too. Time to
shut the door and end the madness before a civil war breaks out.
