Scientist successfully tested the scramjet engine in Woomera, South Aurstralia.

The jet engine reached an altitude of 314km and speeds of 8000km/h.
that's like mach 8!!!!

seven.com.au...

They are hoping to incorporate the engine into aircraft so as to make a big plane trip, a real small one.

i bet they make weapons out of them first.

Imbalanced,

the contrail you show is more indicative of the pulse wave detonation engine than a scramjet.

As to the actual technology though we can all only hope that it comes soon... especiallly if you travel intercontinentally on any sort of regular basis.

it's scary to think where this sort of technology will lead us.
with a scramjet you could send a nuke from America to Iran in a matter of moments.
no-one would see it coming and no-one will have a weapon capable of stopping it.
though, i do feel this test has played a vital role in the aeronautics industry. i'm sure we'll all see how valuable the Supersonic Combustion Ramjet is when the people start packing them full of highly volatile explosives and shooting them at each other.

chuck a laser-guided system on it and you could fly it right up someones arse and they wouldn't know what hit them.

"U.S. armed forces and several countries are working on scramjets as a low-cost alternative to rockets in weapons such as cruise missiles."

And there it is.

They said it. Its up to you to take it seriously.
Bet they got big nukes like that right now.
