Tattoos have been popular for years. Sailors were often advised to get a crucifix on their back to excape the punishment of flogging , which was common amongst the navy. No-one holding a whip wants to lat it to the face of christ staring out at them from the back of someone kneeling before them
Piercings have also been around for years........ tribal societies performed them. They were popular amongst high society women in the 18th century.
