I found this link:

www.zeenews.com...

The rare "Grand Dad", as the Alipore zoo authorities lovingly call him, was named "Adwatiya" -- meaning the peerless one -- more than two centuries after it was brought by a British army officer in 1857.

the pic on that page isnt of him though... but I also heard this on the news. AND THE NEWS NEVER LIES!

how cool is that though? 250 years?

Thats really incredable I can remember riding on the back of one of these giant tortoise when I was a boy.

I found a pic of the actual tortoise in Calcutta below, he's looking pretty fit for his age.

A giant 255-year-old Aldabra-Seychelles tortoise,
found in the Indian Ocean, looks at visitors in a zoo in
Calcutta, India, May 3, 2005.

There is another giant tortoise living on the Island of St Helena.

His name is Jonathon and is the Islands oldest resident, thought to be about 200 years old.

Here is a picture of him carrying the Commonwealth Games Baton this year when it arrived on the Island.

He isn't taking part in the Commonwealth Games though!.
