originally from TheNeo:
as someone that is not in the least familiar with all or Rush's utterings, why do you say that he is a hypocrite on this 'issue?'

did he often rail against drug abuse?

originally from Thomas Crowne:
Colonel, when has he ever condemned others with similar problems?

It's unfortunate when anyone becomes addicted to a drug. Having worked in a pharmacy for 4 years, I'm well aware of the problem of prescription drug addiction. The large majority of people in rehabs around the country are there for Rx drug abuse. When it's someone who has had absolutely no compassion for people with an addiction, however, that gets busted for a narcotic addiction, it's a little hard to stop at least a small grin from creeping onto my lips.

I listened to Rush for many years as a teenager, and I thought he was brilliant. Then I started to realize that he was incapable of any kind of compassion or tolerance of anyone that didn't share his beliefs. I have a serious problem with people who are so self-righteous that they can't see their own mistakes, because they are too busy pointing out every one else's. (yes, I realizing my own faults in deriving any pleasure from this. I'm not perfect, but I do try to understand other people who are different, rather than ridicule them. I also hope that he is successful in kicking the habit, and maybe he'll learn to stop being so hard-hearted).

These are some of the things that he has said in regards to other people and their drug problems:

Rush Limbaugh Show, 10-13-95
Democrats, threatening to kill themselves with a BB gun, getting drunk. Here--a guy who had been cited, who had been recognized for his great work in alcohol and drug abuse is drunk on the highways. This is just--it's tragic, but it's just--it's outrageously funny... Conflict resolution, Democrats and all their good social works, and still, look at what ha--it just--it's--it's hypocrisy.

Rush Limbaugh Show, December 16, 1994
So we're not going to get on--we don't fault these animals for a lack of discipline, but we get on human beings who are fat for lack of discipline and you know it and I know it. But here's the thing that struck me about this. We have alcoholics and drug addicts in our society, don't we?...We totally exempt them from any control over their lives, do we not? Some athlete will spend two years snorting lines of coke. He can't help it....They--they can't help--yeah, like that line of cocaine just happened to march into the hotel, go up to the athlete's room and put itself right there in front of him on his blotter.

In People magazine interview with Limbaugh 1995:
"too many whites are getting away with drug use. The answer is to find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river."

I wonder if he would still support this course of action? How much do ya wanna bet, that if the investigation leads to charges against him, he'll hire a lawyer to try and save his a$$?

Slowly, ever so slowly, the veil is coming off the repugnants to show the ugly evil, hypocrisy, and lies that they represent.

As usual, you say stupid crap that means nothing. Your attempts to throw off your disgusting problems onto someone else's back may work for simpletons as yourself who can't realize that statements as the above are empty, but intelligent people, such as most independent- thinking conservatives, realize you are empty of all but evil and hate.

Hypocrites and liars exist in every facet of politics and life in general. To sterotype someone just because of their political opinion is just as bad as sterotyping someone because of their skin color. As far as good 'ole Rush is concerned, though, he is guilty of the same thing as Colonel. Would you make the same comment to him as you did to Colonel?

For more "good and loving" remarks by Rush see my post directly before yours, since they seem to have been overlooked.

Well, for my two cents on this. I think Limbaugh was wrong to illegally use the drugs and should have sought help..though I can't point the finger at him because we've seen that the same sort of back pain forced the retirment of our friend and fellow ham operator Art Bell who took a spill off his tower and messed up his back. Evedentally Limbaugh used the pain pills to allow him to sit through his hours and hours of show prep and his show...something Mr. Bell could sadly not endure.

However, if pain medication is accordingly and for true pain its reported that addiction is not a common problem. I do think there are cases when a physician wrongly uses pain medication. Lets look at Jerry Lewis who was addicted to percodan or even Elvis Pressely both of who receive pity for their pain problems.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why Limbaugh, with all his money didn't hire a private doctor to prescribe him his meds and do something to cure the problem rather than just appease the symptom. When we see a Hollywood movie star get praise for checking themselves into a drug rehab, I think its wrong so my distain for hypocrisy prevents me from giving Rush support for his mistake. It will and should come with consequences that he will have to deal with personally and legally. The more I read this forum and listen and watch debates, the more I'm comming to conclude that politics is a fools game.

I for one, do listen to NPR on occasion. I'm a big fan of CarTalk.

I am empty of all but evil and hate? Throw off my disgusting problems onto someone elses's back? I DON'T DO DRUGS, TC! I AM NOT AN ADDICT LIKE YOUR DRUG ADDLED MORALIZING HERO RUSH LIMBAUGH, THE HYPOCRITE!

Rush has been the worst disease that has come over this country in his drug addled haze---as he was on air spewing his crap! Now, you want us to feel sympathy, compassion.

But, guess what? If this were a black athlete, a politican, a liberal, or a democrat, you'd ALL say, "THROW 'IM IN JAIL WHERE HE BELONGS!" I don't even know why I deal with you psychopaths...and you repugnants are all walking psychopaths. I have never met a group of people soready and quick to kill another person...as long as that person is a democrat, a minority, or a foreigner. What? Am I lying?

I need to purge. I need to go home right now, stick my finger down my throat, and vomit becuase you hypocrital repugnantws make me sick.

Nothing you opine comes to a succinct point, nor does anything you rant about come to a cogent resemblance of an argument. Just blah, blah "you repugnant this, repugnant that." You are the Trev Alberts of this board. An attention- seeker with a PHD in Persecution Mentality 101.

Do you have anything to say that offers the semblace of an uplifting idea? A solution to a myriad of ills these so-called repugnants of yours have dealt your pitiful little world you call life?

Look in the mirror man, stare yourself in the eye and grow the heck up.

You have deep, emotional issues man. Your hate is going to eat you up one day. Do you get any relief?

...I'm ready now for my sticks and stones....

Listen, sell out, a long time ago, the Dems tried to be civil and decent with you repugnants. We tried to be fair and hold civil discourse. You repugnants took that as weakness and maligned us at every turn---just as a bully would do. This has been going on for a long time.

It ends now.

This is why when I use the same tactics of the repugnants (but better), you scream and moan. "Colonel, you're a baddie." You repugnants have brought so much strife in politics that now you must reap what you sow.

Sell out.
