as someone that is not in the least familiar with all or Rush's utterings, why do you say that he is a hypocrite on this 'issue?'
did he often rail against drug abuse?
originally from Thomas Crowne:
Colonel, when has he ever condemned others with similar problems?
It's unfortunate when anyone becomes addicted to a drug. Having worked in a pharmacy for 4 years, I'm well aware of the problem of prescription drug
addiction. The large majority of people in rehabs around the country are there for Rx drug abuse. When it's someone who has had absolutely no
compassion for people with an addiction, however, that gets busted for a narcotic addiction, it's a little hard to stop at least a small grin from
creeping onto my lips.
I listened to Rush for many years as a teenager, and I thought he was brilliant. Then I started to realize that he was incapable of any kind of
compassion or tolerance of anyone that didn't share his beliefs. I have a serious problem with people who are so self-righteous that they can't see
their own mistakes, because they are too busy pointing out every one else's. (yes, I realizing my own faults in deriving any pleasure from this.
I'm not perfect, but I do try to understand other people who are different, rather than ridicule them. I also hope that he is successful in kicking
the habit, and maybe he'll learn to stop being so hard-hearted).
These are some of the things that he has said in regards to other people and their drug problems:
Rush Limbaugh Show, 10-13-95
Democrats, threatening to kill themselves with a BB gun, getting drunk. Here--a guy who had been cited, who had been recognized for his great work in
alcohol and drug abuse is drunk on the highways.
This is just--it's tragic, but it's just--it's outrageously funny... Conflict resolution,
Democrats and all their good social works, and still, look at what ha--it just--it's--it's hypocrisy.
Rush Limbaugh Show, December 16, 1994
So we're not going to get on--we don't fault these animals for a lack of discipline, but we get on human beings who are fat for lack of discipline
and you know it and I know it. But here's the thing that struck me about this. We have alcoholics and drug addicts in our society, don't we?...We
totally exempt them from any control over their lives, do we not? Some athlete will spend two years snorting lines of coke. He can't help
it....They--they can't help--yeah, like that line of cocaine just happened to march into the hotel, go up to the athlete's room and put itself right
there in front of him on his blotter.
In People magazine interview with Limbaugh 1995:
"too many whites are getting away with drug use. The answer is to find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the
river."
I wonder if he would still support this course of action? How much do ya wanna bet, that if the investigation leads to charges against him, he'll
hire a lawyer to try and save his a$$?
