Beat me too it, just got back from the Cinema. Yes the guy at the beginning was Guy Fawkes, a real person who tried to blow up parliament.
He does not represent Jesus though

V does not represent the anti-christ either, he represents exactly what was said at the end of the film - everyone, the citizens, free citizens.
Symbolised by the millions of people wearing the same costume and then taking off their masks.

The Chancellor was remarkably like Hitler, who was obviously chancellor of Germany.. No accident I'm sure, coupled with the prominant reds in their symbols.

Interesting he was played by John Hurt, who was the lead character Winston Smith in George Orwell's 1984. It was ironic seeing him peering down at us in the cinema like Big Brother in 1984, only this time he was Big Brother..

www.imdb.com...
The fact the symbol is a 'V' is quite amusing too....

Maybe you have to be British to fully appreciate it, but the whole film seemed like tomorrow from our perspective.

I liked the bit where the chancellor said that the people needed to scared into remembering why they need their Government, then it cut to news stories of Avian Flu, Drought, etc which are in the news as we speak.

The way the top people in Government owned pharmaceutical companies which provided the cure for the outbreak that they started but blamed on terrorists. Making them rich and putting fear into the population.

The paranoia of the Government when people started wearing the same costume as V and the Plain clothes policeman shot a little girl in a panic because she had a costume on, much like the Brazilian being shot.

In Hugh Lauries basement there was a flag made up of the Stars and Stripe, Union Jack and the Nazi Swastika with something about the 'coalition' written on it, can't remember what exactly.

Loads of stuff... Amazing, I wish everyone could see it and understand it..
Sadly the Times newspaper, one of the most respected, gave the film a crap review and only 1 star.... It's like they don't want people to see it. Only about 6 other people in the cinema with us..

Some good stills/images:

Notice the similarity to the 1984 Logo

Looks like a really cool movie. I'll be seeing it as soon as I get my paycheck... I wonder if the New World Order will truly be so clearly visible, or if it will be more invisible even to us that know and believe in it?

Oh it's not invisible, this movie shoves it right in your face. The only people who can't see it don't want to see it and nothing will change that. This isn't all airy fairy like most things, it's very, very clear. Which makes me wonder why it got such a crap rating, especially in this countries probbaly best known and most respected paper...?

When they say it's in the future, they mean like a couple of years, everything is what we have now, same cars, same TVs, same phones, same everything. Same corruption, same problems... This movie doesn't beat around the bush.
I HIGHLY recommend seeing this movie, EVERYONE should see this movie.. I can't stress this enough. Especially if you're British.

Right, well, film critics are idiots
But this movie is the first movie in a long time I've actually wanted to see in a cinema. John Hurt really seems to be a very powerful (he screams like Hitler did) leader, just like we want our enemies...
It'll be fun to see V kick his arse back to the Stoneage.

Hehe, Swedish television gave the movie 5 of 5. It seems our critics are much more brainiac than yours

Alright, so maybe we were off about symbolization in that movie...but they still had those detainment camps, they still had those viruses like the Avian Flu... Actually...the interesting thing is..I heard about Chickens being discovered with the Avian Flu before this movie came out...when was this made??? And how did they know?

They still had the riots, and they still had Hitler symbolization in it...everything like that...well just points to NWO... Because that's exactly what the Denver International Airport is said to be. The west center of NWO control. I know there is no evidence to proove that...not really hardcore. I know that alot of you say the runways must be shaped like that ,yes of course.lol. But...the whole base itself is shaped like a swastika. Why do we constantly see NAZI signs..everywhere...it's odd. Even in the movie "Contact" THey show Hitler..and the swastika. Heck they even showed the swastika in the movie "V" for Vendetta....

It is odd to me that Merger pointed out the first thing that came to his mind was "V" the series...with the reptilians. funny because i thought of that too. I also thought of Volkx Wagon for some reason lol.

But Well I could right, and then I could be terribly wrong. Only time will tell...I am just aware of all these signs being thrown in our faces. Of course not all of these movies point to NWO...only a few....

So it's up to yourselves to draw your own conclusions ^_o

I'm 100% sure the Wachowski Brothers read comics. Especially this one.

In fact prior to working in the film industry, the Wachowski brothers wrote comic books for Marvel Comics. Recently they started their own comic publishing company, Burlyman Entertainment.

Also for those trying to make the connection to "V" the old TV show.
"V" first aired in 1983 and "V for Vendetta" was originally published in 1982. The character "V" in V for Vendetta is named after the Roman numeral for 5.

the thing about the moive "contact" was suppose to be irony. the first known contact with another life form was possibly the worst ever human being on the face of the earth...the last person you would want to represent our planet hahaha.

anyway i didnt see this movie, mainly because the ad in the paper looked corny, but maybe ill check it out.

by the way NO ONE go see Libertine....that god aweful movie, second movie i ever walked out of well before it was over.

The V represents Ingsoc:

Ingsoc -Wiki

Ingsoc (Newspeak for "English Socialism") is the ideology of the totalitarian government of Oceania (The Americas, the Atlantic islands including the British Isles, Australasia, and the southern portion of Africa) in George Orwell's dystopic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Ingsoc is personified by Big Brother, an omnipresent Stalin-like figure constantly depicted on posters and the telescreen.

Orwell's 1984 was released on June 8, 1949.

Funny, I just got back from V myself. Apparently Alan Moore, the original writer, didn't want anything to do with the film. I haven't read his reasons though.

Alan Moore doesn't want anything do with any film based on his works.
From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were both his creations and he hasn’t seen either of them.

Actually...that's lies, he spews fourth.

He lives right next to me, I often see him in Milton Keynes and in fact drinks in one of the pubs I often do. He has seen the movies because someone I know asked him for an autograph after the "From Hell" movie.

The Movie is O.K. but as already pointed out, was a stab at Mrs T and was meant as a follow on to much of George Orwell's work.

Movie itself - it's interesting, it's No Matrix though.

That's funny
Every interview I have read Moore says he hasn't seen any of the movies based on his work.

I know, I go to many of the Comic Conventions every week - Collectormania for example - he is a very rude man in real life, to the point it has turned me away from his work. While I worked in the Comic Industry [retail side], I myself was a big fan yet what he says and does are in fact two different things.

You also have to remember, the publicity it creates if he says "I've never seen the movie, I didn't want them to make it, etc..." which tend to come out during the whole "hype" process. It's just basic marketting ploy, that many writers of books and comics use.

Edit:

Last time I did see him, it wasn't for any of the recent works. So he might not be going to them any longer. I'll ask about in M.K. next time I'm up there.

The Vendetta Behind 'V for Vendetta' -NYTimes

But if Mr. Moore had his way today, his name would no longer appear on almost any of the graphic novels with which he is most closely associated. "I don't want anything more to do with these works," he said in a recent telephone interview, "because they were stolen from me — knowingly stolen from me."

But at a press conference on March 4, 2005, to announce the start of production on the "V for Vendetta" film, the producer Joel Silver said Mr. Moore was "very excited about what Larry had to say and Larry sent the script, so we hope to see him sometime before we're in the U.K." This, Mr. Moore said, "was a flat lie."

"Given that I'd already published statements saying I wasn't interested in the film, it actually made me look duplicitous," he said.

Of what I read, he feels ripped off. So seeing the movie sounds like it would be a form of abuse to him.

I don't think anything of your airport ones to be honest, you have to try to hard and squint, but this one however (which I'm sure you've seen) - there is no denying this:

Some US Naval building or something.

As for the rest of the film, yes it is very NWO. I think NWO is an inevitable outcome to a predictable situation, hence why it is told in so many old books. It's not future telling, or a grand plan. It's human psychology.
An outcome from a defined set of inputs, a predictable culmination to the running of a program. People create the problem and do it to themselves, they allow it to happen. They don't want to know.. And others take control and become twisted with the power.
