Nation-wide ammo shortage?

I heard from a fellow recreational shooter in the US, that he had seen a sign hanging at the shooting range, telling that there is increasingly harder to get ammunition, since the production is diverted into production of ammo to the guys in the sandbox!

Is there anyone that have any further knowledge of this?
Seen any notices, heard anything, any official statements?

Are the US having a hard time of producing enough ammunition? Lack of brass?
