I'm watching The Discovery Wings Channel and there's a program called Wings At War.It's about american jet fighters.They were showing an F-15 Eagle and mentioned in one situation it flew to 80,000ft and blew a satellite out of space.Is that possible?

Good info Crayon.I've searched around for more info on the F-15's maximum height capabilities and haven't found anything saying it's gone 80,000ft.I'm more intrigued that a jet fighter flying inside earth's atmosphere can take out something from space.

Lets say ceiling is 65,000ft. Can radar pick up and track a satelite? Also if a missle was launched, could it exit the atmosphere? Then if it could, how would it control itself?

Gentlemen........do you really think that the military provides "accurate" information to private or public information sources...no matter who.....disinformation is a policy wide practiced and utilized throughout the known world and by virtually all militaries. If such information was readily accessable, whats the use in "secret's" gentlemen.....?

BTW....I question the show on Discovery Channel....Wings of War, etc., due to the fact that the very same thing applies to them that I have stated above.

Yes, I am aware of the government not telling us everything. But I did not think standard turbofan engines could fly at 80,000ft. Just not enough air to compress. The SR71 uses axial-flow turbojets. Sounds like special engines for high fliers.

I thought that also Seekerof.I've noticed that alot of specifications of the same plane when reported or shown are never the same...lol.

Regarding the F-15 flying to 80,000 feet - I have found no confirmations on that, however one needs to realize that the F-15 in question was indeed modified to take on this task.

As for the shooting down of a satellite by an F-15; This certainly did happen.
On September 13, 1985, a specially prepared F-15A launched a Vought ASM-135 ASAT (3 stage air-to-space anti-satellite missile) against a retired communications satellite in a 555 km (345 mile) orbit.
The satellite was 6.8 ft in diameter, weighed 1,874-pounds and was known as a P78-1. The ASAT destroyed the satellite, hitting it within 6 inches of the aim point.
Verification of this information can easily be obtained by doing a web search for keyword: ASAT.

Yes Russian the part of an F-15 flying that high seems to be true so far.F-18 Hornets were used in Independence Day.
