March 13, 2006 - LG/Phillips unveiled the largest LCD display in the world in South Korea last week. The panel is a 100 inch TFT-LCD, which dramatically surpasses the previous record, an 82 inch panel manufactured by Samsung that was shown at CES.
The panel was manufactured at LG's seventh-generation production line at Paju, South Korea. The panel contains 6.22 million pixels and boasts a response time lower than 5ms. Contrast ration is listed as 3000:1, and LG says the panel has a 180 degree viewing angle.
The LCD size battle between LG and Samsung began in 2002 when LG showed a 52 inch panel. LG's 100 inch LCD is just three inches short of the largest display panel in the world, a 103 inch plasma display manufactured by Panasonic.
