The Death Blows: Set for around March 27th?

A recent sequence of events and a number of indicators point to an imminent major terrorist attack on American soil, likely on or around March 27th.

Messages consistently announce two major operations in the US:

In late January, Al-Jazeera released an audio tape on which Osama bin Laden offered a truce to the US and Britain and warned of fresh attacks if the truce was rejected. On March 5th, an unusually clear and well produced tape was released that showed Ayman al Zawahiri encouraging Al Qaeda fighters. The release of Zawahiri's tapes has been known to correlate with major attacks. Now, a last warning has been issued announcing major attakcs on American soil.

The warning announces two major operations and correlates well with previous warnings that speak of two so called "death blows". Following the Madrid attacks of March 11 2004, a message was released stating that Operation "Wind of Black Death" was 90% ready and would be executed in the US. This week's "last warning" speaks of major operational planning being completed.

In a message claiming responsibility for the 2004 blackout, reference is made to two separate operations characterized as "the awaited strikes". They are named as The Gift of the Sheik, said to be "on its way to the White House", and The Gift of Al-Aqsa.

Despite the repeated and sometimes confusing messages emanating from Al Qaeda affiliated groups, the strong recurring theme of two strikes nearing completion has been carried on since at least March 2004. The repeated warnings before this second round of major attacks seem to serve two purposes. First, they increase uncertainty about the actual timing of the attacks, and second, they address islamic criticisms of the 9/11 attacks. Through these repeated warnings, Al Qaeda is seen to offer westerners a chance to convert and/or surrender before being hit.

Possible timing of the attacks:

Major attacks have been staged on dates involving the numbers 3 and 11. Both the 9/11/01 attacks and the 3/11/04 attacks were carried out on such dates. The warning about Operation Wind of Black Death and this most recent "Final Warning" were released on such dates. If the groups and indviduals planning these attacks maintain the existing pattern, the next "high risk" date is 3/27/06 (27 = 3^3). March 27th is one day before the upcoming Israeli elections. The Madrid attack was also correlated with elections.

March 27th also coincides with a number of other developments that are taking shape for late March, including escalation of the Iran crisis, the opening of the Iranian oil bourse and the discontinuation of the M3 report.

Possible nature of the attacks:

Assuming that the codenames given in the various messages are informative, we can suggest some possible targets and means of attack. Operation Wind of Black Death seems to be made up of two components, the Gift of the Sheik and the Gift of Al Aqsa. The gift of the Sheik is said to be aimed at the White House. If this is taken literally, the target could be Washington DC. The one failed attack on 9/11 was likely aimed at DC and possibly at the White House.The Gift of Al Aqsa could be aimed at a major oil producing and/or importing area of the US. Muslims bring a gift of oil when they visit the mosque of Al Aqsa. The oil is ritually burned. The "last warning" mentions states far from Washington DC, and Arizona in particular, but if the attack will indeed target the oil industry, Texas or Louisiana are more likely.

In both cases, tactical nuclear weapons are likely to be used. It is difficult
to imagine how the sort of destruction promised in the warnings could be effected without them. Then again, the 9/11 attacks proved that with enough planning and emphasis on asymetrical approaches, it is possible to inflict damage out of all proportion to the means used.

Summary:

After 2 years of final preparation (from 90% in March 04 to 100% in March 06), Al Qaeda is now ready to carry out two major operations in the US. The most recent message by bin Laden offering a truce was meant to anticipate Islamic criticism of the attacks by offering the West a chance to convert and/or surrender. The Zawahiri message was the activation trigger. The Final warning now tells us that we are about to be hit.

Around August 1st 1998
August 7th 1998: Embassy bombings

Around Sept 20th 2000:
Oct 12th 2000: USS Cole bombing

Oct 6th 2002:
Same day: Tanker Limburg attacked in Persian Gulf
Oct 12th: Bali Bombings

May 21st 2003: message calls for attacks in support of Iraqi defenders
May 12th: Riyadh bombings
May 16th: Casablanca bombings

I can't believe CNN reported ANYTHING negative about the U.S. - I'll be watching this but I do not hold anything CNN reports very seriously. More fear mongering designed to validate Bush and support the war. If something does happen I'd look to the American Administration for responsibility.
