China Detains Health Official for Publicizing AIDS Coverup

Well good to know that the Chinese are very on top of taking care of public health crisis!

I guess this is why they cracked down so hard on the mayor or Hong Kong over SARS: the last thing they wanted was this kind of fear overlying a seriously contagious and deadly disease...

BEIJING, Oct. 7 -- China has detained a provincial health official for allegedly making public a classified document showing that officials knew about an exploding AIDS problem in the countryside years before the government acknowledged its existence, doctors and human rights activists said

Shows once again that China has done things in the past that no one knows about. And when it surfaces, they have to try and save face by screaming, hollaring, and detaining. Someday, maybe, we will see live info comming out of China so we don't have to see them stumble over their secrets.

I would remind you that the good old US of A has more than its share of secrets is has and still does keep from the people.

Granted, because we have more freedom of the press (note that I didnt say complete freedom?) it makes keeping secrets of this magnitude a bit harder than in socialist countries. However, we still have our share, just as bad as these....

That is the scary part. I do see one difference though. The US scientists are allowed to go out and do research into different subjects and publish their findings. I believe this brings more stuff out into the open and we just have to deal with it. While in certain parts of the world, the scientists are kept from sharing what they have found, so those that run their country and try to show they are immune, or are better than everybody else. Well until it leaks...

i find america takes many steps to keep its citizens in the "light"

movies,books,tv programs, even this neutral joy of information called the internet...

i just dont like the ability of no ability and that is where the issue creates problems for chinese and americans...

dont be fooled we have choices in this life, yet those decisions sometime come with sacrifices...
