"Democracy" and "Freedom" will become a perjorative

Yes, that's my prediction. In a century or two, those two terms will join the ranks of other political or ideological perjoratives like "fascist pig" or "commie bastard". The way things are going, I don't see it as being far from likely.

Those two terms, "democracy" and "freedom" have been over-used and abused to the point it has no meaning any more for me. The same as the word "jihad".

I get queasy everytime I hear a western politician talk about "spreading democracy" here or there. The same uneasy feeling I get when I hear a religious zealot speak of "undertaking a jihad".

Am I anti-democracy? Am I anti-freedom? Do I believe jihad is a bad thing? No, of course not. I believe in the fundamental meanings those principles are supposed to convey. But as I have said, it gets so abused that I feel nauseous when I hear it.

Am I the only one who feels this way?
