On ATS we have a real broad range of charachters on here, some believers and those who do not. Those who like to conform.. those who do not.

My question here, Is your glass half full or half empty.

In life do you try to look at the good side of things, or has it brought you down to look at the bad sides.

I have had alot of bad days in my life, some tragic deaths, cancer in my family etc. But I still try to see the good side of things.

If you go through life focusing on the negatives, your going to miss how great life is.

How does your glass look today?

So true chissler

Pessimism -vs- Optimism

Mine usually resembles this

, though I'm sure we all have days when it seems we have reached the bottom of the well, per se. At those times my approach is to drop back, punt, and wait to see what tomorrow will bring. That's just me I guess.

A recent case in point, all in the same week:

Well pump goes out = $1,200

Gas line to house cracks = $400

Wife and kids pull together to make the best of it = Priceless

Anybody else?

My newborn son is starting to sleep longer through the night. So, I'd have to say my glass is half-full!

My glass isn't half full or half empty.

It's just perfect.

I am a happy person. Some people think I am a little too happy, but what do those grumpy people know?

My glass is always completely full, that may be why I'm always happy.

Just kidding, life is what you make of it and I'm having a ball. I used to be
all of the time but realized that life is too short and it takes too damn much energy on
.

I keep my cup in a box, where i can't see it. Therefore, according to physics messiah Erwin Schrödinger, it is neither half full nor half empty, yet it is both at the same time.

...i can't drink the water, though... i forgot to take the radium out of the box after i got done with the cat.

i'm kinda like parallelogram, but i don't keep mine in a box.

my glass is half empty, until someone else looks at it, and they exclaim, no, it is half full.

and vice versa. a true paradox.

It's such a silly question. I know what it refers to but surely there's a better metaphor out there.

If you, or someone else filled it to half way, then it's half full. If you, or anyone else drank or emptied it to the halfway level then it's half empty.

If you are presented with the glass as is, then my question is did someone pour or empty it? Though usually you can easily tell by looking at the glass.

Yes, I'm too logical, and yes I do get funny looks when I answer the question that way.

The chicken and the egg question is the same, such a simple answer...

All eight of my glasses are half full.

It has taken a lot of work for me to see life as it is.

The pessimist: "The cup is half empty"
The optimist : "The cup is half full"
The engineer: "We need to redesign the cup"

Lets hear one!

Personally I don't think its silly at all, and it can be joked about while having a laugh, or you could take this seriosly and mean alot to some people.

Some of us have not been lucky enough to beable to pour our own glass, so we have to look at it as we please. Others may have more water in their glass than me and you, its how much you appreciate the water you have that counts.

Now enough water talk, have a beer!

and a Lemon Twist

Now that I have drunken some, I see. It is only HALF FULL. It needs some more..................
