Having some idea of the technical expertise of the man associated with this url, I've been thinking he's got something tricky here.

What's the minimum size for a hyperlink. Can it be a mere pixel?

Yes, even a clear(transparent) 1 X 1 pixel image file can be used as a hyperlink, though that's not the case here. The source shows simply a _javascript background transition.

At least for now ...
