On this point, I would have to clarify. While on Active Duty, I trained with FN's (representing their respective country's military) on US soil (so there are foreign forces presently on our soil). It was/is part of a cooperative agreement we have with NATO, etc. I DO, however, agree with the essence of this comment regarding the number of FNs...not enough to be of any significance.

Also, I wanted to add the little bit regarding the Naval Standown this friday.
In the pursuit of denying ignorance:
The Standown will ony be for a half day on Friday Not Saturday
and will ground all Naval flights during that time. I would hope the Air force was covering tasks during the standown, but nothing was mentioned.

The official release states as follows:

The stand down will affect 3,800 aircraft and thousands of naval aviation personnel, including aircraft on 12 carriers around the world. It is the first time since September 1997 that such a pause in flight operations across the Navy has been ordered.

so it isn't for one specific area, and it is only planes...

I just thought this story would be worth adding to this conversation.

I was watching the news while getting ready for work this morning and a statement made supposedly by the Irinian government made me shiver.
I think the shiver came from having read this thread in the last couple of days and than today I hear this.

Iran threatened the United States with "harm and pain" as the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency ended a three-day meeting (From link posted above.)

I honestly dont really know what think at this point, but it just seems like too much drama is building up. And from my experience drama build up is rarely a good thing.

I have to admit, though, that world tension is rising on many simultaneous fronts right now, and people are definitely feeling it. Whether this "high class hooker" thing is the cause of, effect of, or completely unrelated to this increase in tension, I can't discern from the limited facts available here. Still, I plan to spend the weekend glued to the news channels, or nursing a bottle of vodka, or maybe both.

But then, that's how I spend most weekends.

An attempt to relieve the lower echelons of the navy, oblivious to what is really going on? Or could it be the stand down gives a clear path for two groups who claim what evil and lesser evil is, to go at it? Away from the public view. Wouldn't this be an advantage for the 'Top Dogs' to keep control any way it goes because it's out of the public view. Kinda, like how medication that treats a symptom, but the source never went away.

But I do find it hard to believe that the post about the soldier that's given the assignment to catch perpertrators in the chinese/russian trap... the destroyer ships, would be desconstructing a serious counter move to what may be happening. Although assuring it seems, to believe they have it covered, why risk alerting the enemy?

Generally speaking, you know... the frog slowly being cooked in the pot, that goes too slow for the frogs to notice the gradual increase in temperature change. I refuse to be overcooked. I can't imagine that Iran would have the capability for a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States. Iran does have submarines, but it is highly doubtful they could penetrate U.S. detection nets in the Atlantic and Pacific.

However, an Iranian diesel-powered submarine could be smuggled into sensitive U.S. ports in a "Trogan Horse". If any of you have read Larry Niven's "Footfall"--you would recall that the human resistance smuggled large caches of cargo beneath cargo ships and oil tankers to evade detection.

The "Trojan Horse" would have to have sufficient mass to secure a submarine within it--or would have to have a shallow displacement to give the submarine hidden beneath enough clearance to not bottom out.

Either scenario would give a submarine opportunity to be smuggled into U.S. ports. Also--some of you are assuming that a submarine needs to launch a nuke with a missle to attack a target. If an Iranian submarine were to carry a nuclear device--the submarine itself would be the transport. It would only have to get close enough to its target to do sufficient damage.

Not because I am on here, but I put a lot more faith in this site than GLP! Jeez, at least this site has some control over the trolls and there are some rules. When you read through a thread MOST comments are thought out and semi intelligent. A GLP thread more often than not reads like most posts were by hyperactive 5th graders with tourette's.


Anyway, for those who believe this and live on the west coast, what are you doing this weekend? Are there any here that believe this that live in a major WC city? If so, what preparations are you making?

For the record I still find this preposterous, but I understand there are those that believe it, and I'm just curious what people would do if there was a serious threat of an attack by nukes or other major devices...

I just read through part of this thread and it kinda freaked me out. I had a dream the last week of February that we were gonna be attacked by Iran and then invade them on the 18th of March. I passed it off as my brain's way of assimilating information (I had been reading up on the bourse that week). But the strange thing is that in my dream slumberland, it was a hooker that told me the info shortly before I woke up. I know that is most likely just a coincidence (maybe I was looking at porn right after the bourse material? hell, I dunno) ... but still this thread raised my eyebrow.

P.S. I have had some dreams/premonitions that dealt with me personally come true in the past, but nothing ever on a worldwide scale. I'm still gonna keep an eye on things until the 18th.
