Granted this is from a biased news organization... but is the U.S. doing the right thing?

arabnews.com...

Why are we worring about these guys? None of our p.o.w's received a court appearance ever! Oh Gary Powers did. That went well.

Lets get off this and let the Red Cross make sure they have food and go and kick butt.

The U.S does have this right in my opinion.

Yes obviously US is going too far, and no you don't have the 'right' to ignore all world protocols.

If they're POW's then that's a legal status that gives the POW rights and the captor responsibilities.

You don't seem to be aware that the US has invented the term 'enemy combatants' purely to subvert these rights and abrogate those responsibilities.

I suggest you do more research and then apply a deeper level of thought before you post on here.

I suggest you stop with the sarcasm and the anti american thought. POW's have the right to a lawyer?

Where and when have POW's been in front of a judge. Nuremburg? After the war was over.

Where else?

These guys where no uniform. None. So where is the POW protection?

Read the Geneva Convention before being so sarcastic.

Hmmm....there are two sides to this.

1.) Yes, US forces have this right. Some POWs may have knowledge or information that could very well save thousands or more. Yes, we may have to use brutal means to extract said information. If must be done.

2.) And No. US forces should not beat, berate, or torture for the fun of it. We should not make POWs stand naked for hours while we take photos or build human pyramids. That is degrading to everyone as a human being an does nothing to protect the people.

And no POW has ever stood trial. Once the war was over, said POWs were either released or officialy charged with War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity and others.

What prisoners of war? Do you mean in Iraq?

I know there is lots of political prisoners around the world in all of these socialistic and communistic countries. I'm willing to bet that political prisoners are being beaten at this moment somewhere in this world.

The US is very good at knowing the cracks in the system.

During the American Civil War the Union ignored the rights of Southernors because they knew that there was no provision for rebellion in international and maritime laws.

Today is no different; nothing protects "NGOs" from the full wrath of a nation...non-government organizations have fallen through the cracks and thus the US can do whatever they want with "terrorists".

POW's are individuals captured on the battle field wearing a uniform of a nation. These people were wearing civillian clothing when captured, actually according to the GC, they could have been shot on sight as spies.

The actions of a FEW do not represent the actions of the whole, and those that were deemed responsible have faced trial and are now in prison where they belong.

I have made this point quite a few times in prior debates of this subject Striker. And I feel it is a good one, but one nobody pays attention to. These milita's do not have the rights of the geneva convention as written. Thier methods of fighting also forfeight their Geneva Conv. rights. I guess maybe if we took no prisoners and just shot them on sight there wouldnt be a debate over this would there.(insert sarcasm) The US is damned if it does, damned if it doesnt. Thats the way I see it. No matter what actions this country takes, it will be criticised for those actions.
