WASHINGTON - The agency entrusted with protecting the U.S. homeland is having difficulty safeguarding its own headquarters, say private security guards at the complex.

The guards have taken their concerns to Congress, describing inadequate training, failed security tests and slow or confused reactions to bomb and biological threats.

For instance, when an envelope with suspicious powder was opened last fall at Homeland Security Department headquarters, guards said they watched in amazement as superiors carried it by the office of Secretary Michael Chertoff, took it outside and then shook it outside Chertoff's window without evacuating people nearby.

news.yahoo.com...

Well, where to begin.............

The fact that these "intellectual genius" are out speaking to anything on this issue proves they were correct about the lack of security. These "persons" should never have had any security clearance and I pray never will again. When you hire the bottom of the barrel this is what you get..........

Perhaps these "gate keepers" should be out protecting dog houses.........

mod edit change insecure to not secure

Considering that our southern border is practically wide open and foreign-government-owned corporations run most (or all?) of our ports now, learning that Homeland Security HQ is vulnerable/insecure/unsafe/unprotected just goes to show that big government, in its infinite stupidity, sure as hell is consistent!

I also think the larger point is, Government isn't the answer to individual self defense. Each person must be prepared to protect themselves.
