When we were young
Our hearts full of song
How it seemed to us
Nothing could go wrong

Yes, young we were
Our spirits high
We became too involved
To sense time flashing by

Left stranded by life
Far from our souls
We watched bitterness seep
From the cold, empty holes

Yet somewhere inside us
I know there's still hope
That somewhere out there
God is helping us cope

Just watching and waiting
For faith to appear
Then leading us to safety
And a haven from fear

This is my very first poem, written in the Summer of 1979, when I was 15.
