The head of the Russian Atomic Energy Organization has said he believes the current situation regarding the Iranian nuclear position should be be
resolved using diplomatic means, via the IAEA.
Sergei Kiriyekno also told reporters, after visiting Bushehr power plant, that his visit had involved the signing of an agreement aimed at securing increased Russo-Iranian cooperation.
Mr Kiriyenko also said he believed the controversial nuclear facility could now be completed as a result of the removal of spent fuel to Russia.

"Russia believes that Iran has legitimate right to use nuclear energy. Of course, Iran is also ready to provide the international community with 'objective guarantee' to ensure that Iranian nuclear program will not be diverted to produce weapons," the Russian official said.
He said that the agreement included cooperation in the field of energy, development of North-South Corridor, Russian Gazprom's cooperation with Iran in developing Iranian gas fields, setting up of gas reservoirs, export of cars to Russia and purchase of Russian airplanes.

Given that Russia has historical ties with Iran, the proposal to act as go between is not suprising, although such a move should remind us that Iran does have powerful allies.
The commitment to further economic interaction, particularly within the energy sector, appears to be further confirmation that, give any future conflict in the region, Russia would become involved.
As events progress, the idea of Mr Ahmadinejad being an agent provocateur in what is, I believe, an essentially economic conflict, is becoming more appealing.

TEHRAN -- Iran said on Monday that there was "no reason" for it to back down in a dispute over its nuclear program, casting fresh doubt on the prospect of Russia being able to broker an 11th-hour compromise.
The comment from Ali Hosseini-Tash, one of Iran's nuclear negotiators, came as Moscow urged the Islamic republic to return to a voluntary freeze of sensitive enrichment work that could deliver the clerical regime the capacity to make a bomb.
"Iran has predicted and studied the consequences of any possible Security Council decision. There is no reason for Iran to retreat," Hosseini-Tash was quoted as saying by state television.

Iran testing 20-centrifuge nuclear cascade - IAEA
VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has begun testing a cascade of 20 centrifuges at its Natanz pilot uranium-enrichment plant, pressing ahead with efforts to purify nuclear fuel in defiance of world pressure, a nuclear watchdog report said on Monday.
The confidential report by International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Iran had also begun substantial renovations of Natanz's system handling UF6 gas, which is converted by centrifuges into enriched atomic fuel.
It said the cascade of 20 centrifuge machines began to undergo vacuum testing on February 22.
