Al-Qaeda was behind the foiled suicide bomb attack on a major Saudi oil facility on Friday, says a website used by Islamic militants in Saudi Arabia.

The statement said the attack at the oil-processing plant at Abqaiq was part of al-Qaeda's campaign to force "infidels" out of the peninsula.

The Saudi government has said it foiled the attack and output was not affected.

Al-Qaeda has made it clear in the past that one of their goals, aside from kicking out all the "infidels" from Arab lands is the overthrow of the Saudi government, which they view as 'being in bed with the enemy'.

Yesterday's attack on the Saudi oil-processing plant appears to be a shift of focus from attacking western targets to a direct assault on the source of the Saudi government's power -- The Black Gold.
