Ricin Discovered in Texas Dormitory

Wonder where this will end up leading to. I think univerisities are the perfect cover and place for any terrorist to hide. Lots of students and no one pays any attention to anyone else mostly. The serious students are too busy studying and the party ones are busy other ways.

AUSTIN -- A substance discovered by a student in a University of Texas dormitory has tested positive for ricin, a potentially deadly poison, officials said.

The chunky powder was found at the Moore-Hill dormitory Thursday and reported to university police, officials said. Tests for ricin came back positive Friday. Officials don't know where it came from, said campus police spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon.

This reminds me of the anthrax scare just after 9 / 11... The goverment uf the uS blew a storm over it until it was tarced back to a US weapons lab Now its going to be interesting to see where this ricin came from, and what noises the US gov make over this.

Last year it was home-made bombs at Oklahoma State, Atlanta Tech and UCLA.

Now we find ricin at University of Texas.

If this trend keeps up, God only knows what might show up at MIT!

The discovery of ricin is a bit more notable than finding "homemade bombs". When someone describes a homemade bomb, authorities aren't usually very specific. Technically, a homemade bomb could even be considered a pipe, tube or bottle filled with matchheads -- capable of minimal damage, destructive and dangerous but not significant. Ricin is an altogether different story. This stuff is deadly.

That is pretty disturbing that they found that in a dormitory. I will be interested to see where the investigation goes.

It really not that hard to make Ricin. You can make it from castor beans which you can easily buy at green houses. You dont even have to be Chemist to make this stuff though it would help.

You would need Castor Beans, a blender, a lye/water mixture, acetone and some jars. That would be about it. You can find info on how to do this on the net. They even had a episode of CSI Vegas were someone used homemade ricin to kill.

This wouldn't be weapons-grade ricin or anything but it would kill you. I would be shocked if this Ricin found was close to weapons-grade. That would take some know how.

Well now they are not sure whether it is ricin or not. Seems they someone always jumps the gun and makes paranoid claims without having solid tests or proof to back it up.
