Muslim leaders to screen European school books

It looks like they're getting ready to rewrite history in the EU to whitewash the negative histories of religion and religious conflicts in Europe.

The call for a special committee to examine religious education in schools came yesterday from Hans-Gert Pöttering, the German Christian Democrat, who heads the largest group of MEPs. Pottering, head of the federalist European People’s Party suggested in a debate about the crisis brought about by Islamic intolerance to cartoons published in a Danish newspaper, that the EU should co-operate with the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to establish a textbook review committee.

This committee would screen existing and new publications intended for use in religious and history teaching in European schools and colleges. In other words, Islamic representatives would be invited to edit material about Islamic faith and the centuries of bloody conflict between the western and the Muslim worlds, effectively rewriting European history from an Islamic perspective! It is an astonishing act of appeasement.

During a debate intended to show Europe's unity in the face of the row over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, he said textbooks should be checked to ensure they promoted European values without propagating religious stereotypes or prejudice.

He also suggested that the EU could co-operate with the 56-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference, which has its headquarters in Saudi Arabia, to create a textbook review committee.

"They could help to choose the experts to sit on this committee," he said.

What of load of crap this is.
Allowing a muslim organization based in Saudi Arabia to have their choice of people to edit European text books is a really bad idea.
I'm pretty sure they'll just modify the texts surrounding Islamic invasions of Europe while keeping the Crusades as one of the worst events of history.
They shouldn't modify history books to avoid offending people.

Long story short: Don't expect to learn anything from highschool textbooks, regardless of who 'approves' them.

Didn't an Italian politician recnely describe Europe as a society with a heart of butter?

Seems to be a fitting epitath for a weak appeasing culture.

However on reading the article, its just proposed, not actually happening yet.
