Eddie V. will always be the guitar god, but a couple of my other faves are:

Neal Schon

Lindsay Buckingham

Both of these guys, especially Buckingham, have always been underrated IMO.

Peace

To my mind the most underappreciated rock and acoustic guitarist in the world is Phil Keaggy. Probably because since the early '70's he has been primarily a Christian performer. But he still is a tremendously talented guy.

My all time favorite guitarist is/was Stevie Ray Vaughn,

because of the power and passion that went into his playing.

I will try to set up a link so others who may be interested can download Phil Keaggy and find out why he appeared in Guitar Player magazine at least ten times in the past twenty years.

"Modern" guitarists would have to be Joel and Adam from Killswitch Engage, I can always count on those guys to provide me with some kick arse riffs, and their pinch harmonics are nothing but sheer beauty.

^ Adam Dutkiewicz (he has amazing stage presence too)

^ Joel Stroetzel

The guitarists from Dragonforce sure know how to shred! Listen to their song, 'Through the Fire and the Flames', that's on their website - the solos towards the end are inhuman.

Herman Li

Sam Totman

I just figured since no else mentioned Trey I had to put him up for 2 votes for best guitarist...

Randy Rhodes.

Cut down way too early and what a phenomenal presence. That man could play...

Eddie Van Halen is #2 on my humble little list.
