MIA On Heightened Alert After Rumor Of Threat

MIAMI -- Miami International Airport is on a heightened alert after receiving a report of an unspecified threat against a Florida airport.

Officials received a report that of CB chatter that said a tanker truck was in Florida and looking to target an airport.

The airport is conducting business as usual but on a heightened alert, officials said.

Sherriff is on tv right now, let you know what develops, my in-laws are arriving at the airport right now also.

Here's some more info:

CB Radio Chatter Leads To Warning At Airports

The truckers said they heard some talking about a man headed to a South Florida airport with a truck filled with explosives.

Broward Sheriff's spokesperson Hugh Graf said that there is no increased state of alert at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, but he said they are being more vigilant about trucks in the area of the airport.

Miami-Dade police said that Homeland Security is always in a heightened state of alert, but they also will be on the lookout for any suspect vehicles near Miami International Airport.

The Sherriff didn't say much more, except that it is being looked into and that as of now, it is "unconfirmed".

Hope it was just a case of hearing the wrong thing.

In-laws just called, they're on the ground...so all is cool on my end.
I heard about the voodoo lady, read it on the Herald.
I can't believe she actually tried to bring the skull into the country.
Skull aboard flight from Haiti likely used in Vodou

here's more, it now seems the alert has been extended to all Airports in the South Eastern USA.
Explosive Threat Puts Southeast Airports On Alert

Police statewide are on alert for a suspicious truck.

The bulletin has also been extended to all airports in the Southeast United States.

Miami-Dade Police have posted a checkpoint at the entrance of Miami International Airport and will stop for inspection every tractor trailer attempting to enter airport property. Checkpoints are also being posted at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The Florida Highway Patrfol issued the alert to police agencies statewide, and at Miami International Airport, Miami-Dade police have already stepped up security at the terminal and on the perimeter.

Police do not have a description of the truck, or know for sure it exists, but they say they will treat the threat as credible until they no more.

I took the liberty of not correcting their typo, I believe it should be "know"

hmmm looks like they know more about this "threat" than they are telling us. The title of the article calls it a "Rumor of a threat" yet Sheriff Jenne says they are looking for "specific truck".

Airports On Heightened Alert After Rumor Of Threat

"We are on alert but it has not been substantiated. Our deputies have been in conversation with the person who originally called it in. We do not believe that there is an immediate threat. We are acting precautionary," Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne said.

"It could very well be that it was something that was misheard, something that is a hoax or something that could be real," Jenne said. "We have no independent verification of any of this at this point."

South Florida's airports are conducting business as usual but are on a heightened alert, officials said.

Jenne said police are on the lookout for a particular truck, but did not give specifics.

Well that is odd. In your link:

cbs4.com...

First this:

The truck police believe is involved is a blue and white 18 wheeler, with Illinois license tag P466469. The driver is described is described as a 6’2” man, weighing approximately 300 pounds.

That's about as specific as you can get.

Then this:

Police do not have a description of the truck, or know for sure it exists, but they say they will treat the threat as credible until they know more.
