What happened to Valdemar Lopes de Moraes was most unfortunate, Vanessa Guimaraes told reporters at the Montes Claros clinic in Minas Gerais
(Brazil), but it really wasnt our fault. He came to the clinic last week, suffering from ear trouble which was muffling his hearing, so we told him
to sit in the waiting room until a doctor could see him. After a while, a nurse called out for Aldemar, a patient who wasnt there. But Sr Moraes
was, and he misheard, and thought shed said Valdemar, so he followed her into a consulting room where a doctor was performing vasectomies.
The strange thing is that he asked no questions, even when the doctor asked him to remove his trousers, and started to shave his testicles.
Apparently, he just assumed that his ear inflammation had reached as far as his genitals, and didnt even protest when the snip got underway. Odder
still, he came back again yesterday, to get the ear examination he failed to get the first time. He said nothing about the vasectomy, but a local
newspaper has reported that he is going to sue us, so were awaiting a writ. (Houston Chronicle, 21/8/03)
