Horn, who turned 59 Friday, was taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, said hospital spokeswoman Cheryl Persinger.

"All I know now is that he's still critical," she said.

Firefighters were called to the hotel-casino about 8:45 p.m. and found Horn had been "attacked at the throat" by a tiger during a performance, said Clark County (search) Fire spokesman Bob Leinbach.

MGM Mirage (search) spokesman Alan Feldman said Horn "sustained a serious injury to the left side of his neck." Feldman said Horn was in surgery late Friday.

I don't think he'll live through this if its this bad.

The risks are well known regarding working with wild animals, so I do not feel sorry for him as bad as that may sound to some. Stunt men, daredevils, and anybody else with hazardous positions have to be mindful of this kind of thing.

I'm amazed it never happened before, to be honest.

Roy's in "critial but stable" condition, and he should recover.

asia.reuters.com...

When Horn tried to fend the tiger off with his microphone, the tiger lunged and bit him on the left side of the neck, causing profuse blood loss, they said.
Horn was conscious when he was rushed to University Medical Center and underwent about two hours of surgery, said his spokesman, Dave Kirvin.
"It's just sad and extremely unfortunate. The doctors are encouraged that he will recover, but it will be several days until the full extent of his injury is known,"

I know it's wrong, but I laughed at the mental image of the poor fella trying to beat the tiger down with a microphone...

I agree with you heelstone. People know the dangers involved when dealing with these animals. I'm surprised that it hadn't happened sooner too. I have actually seen the Siegfried & Roy show. I was impressed with it and I didn't expect such an elaborate performance.

I wouldn't want to have to be jumping through hoops of fire either, if I was a tiger I would've bit his head off.

I feel sorry for the human loss and the families and friends. But at the same time it gives me pleasure to know the tiger got him after years of captivity. I'm totally against captivity of any animal that doesn't choose to stay with you.

In defense of Roy.....those tigers are treated better than most humans. They have a huge estate so the animals weren't lacking for room. Siegfried and Roy brought back the white tiger population whereas no one else could. I realize there are white tigers in the wild, however they don't fair too well. Roy will survive this horrible accident. He is receiving prayers and good wishes, from around the world. He's had many prominent visitors like Steve Wynn, Arnie and his wife, Liz Taylor, Michael Jackson, and Priscilla Presley to name a few.

A white tiger is the result of a genetic mutation.
They are not a separate species.
You do realize that "bringing back" the white tiger involves a whole lot of inbreeding, right? To capitalize on a rare genetic mutation by breeding more of the same mutation, you wind up breeding "brothers and sisters," "mothers and sons," etc.
Inbreeding in any species does not result in good things happening. That's why Dalmatian dogs are predisposed towards blindness, and Golden Retrievers suffer hip dysplasia.

Gary Waddell, Anchor
Steve Wynn Gives Exclusive Interview

Wynn gave an exclusive interview to Eyewitness News Anchor, Gary Waddell on Wednesday. He says that what happened Friday night was a fluke, something that never should have occurred. And something that no one could have foreseen. He continued to say that Roy --- even as he was being carried off stage by the tiger -- was saying he didn't want anything to happen to the cat.

If Montecore wanted to kill Roy he would have. Roy placed himself between the woman and the tiger. This was not a case of reverting or a tiger going mad, due to inbreeding. As soon as Roy gets out of the hospital he wants to see Montecore and give him a big hug.

"You can take the animal out of the wild, but you can't take the wild out of the animal"

Regardless of an animal's intentions, they can and may do harm. Overall, I don't think breeding has anything to do with their behavior. Yes, in some cases, the way animals are bred have lasting effects on their lives. The main issue is--Animals lack REASONING. They act without reason and this leads to conflict. Are they to blame for their lack of reason? Absolutely not. We, as humans, put ourselves at risk by interacting with animals. Then again, our greatest enemy is of our own kind.

It's not funny, but I kinda laugh when I saw that too.

I think there were an episode of The Simpson were they showed them, and for some reason, the tiger was angry and attacked one of them. It was hilarious.

Anyway, as some one already mentionned, there's always risk to deal with when one do such kind of dangerous jobs. Hope he gets alright, and maybe retire? Isn't he old to do that kind of stuff?

Edit: Nice quote, Bangin.
