The Universe That Can't Die

Topic started on 9-2-2006 @ 09:27 PM by omega1

The universe started from the "Big Bang". At that point in time all the matter was condensed into a small clump. That small clump exploded and is now still exploding (what we call the expansion of the universe). Scientists say that one day it will stop expanding and begin to contract, to once again compress into that above mentioned clump.

So here's the question:

Can the universe ever really end? Or does it just go through the cycle?

Hypothetically speaking, if it were to clump and copmpress and then explode again, would there be life?

Perhaps this has been going on for an infinite amount of time and will indefinetly keep on going...

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated...

Here is a link that has an indepth explanation for the science of the Big Bang.

Hasn't it now been proven that the universe is not only expanding, but it is expanding at an accelerated rate? How can the universe imploded back in on itself, when it is growing faster and faster as time goes on.
Learn More Here

Until this 'acceleration' was noticed, scientist predicted that the universe would indeed fall back in on itself. Everyone was happy with this theory. Now that these new facts have been discovered, everyone is like 'what the heck?' According to our knowledge of gravity, it should eventually gain control over the explosion of the big bang and gradually bring everything else back together. But nope. That's not the case. Something else is 'pushing' the universe further apart. What the heck is it? Nobody knows, but it has a name: Dark Energy.

Scientist 'theorise' that dark energy is like gravity's opposite. It pushes mass away from other mass.

The location of the root of DARK ENERGY would most likely therefore be the center, and the outer rims of the universe, yes?

Absolutely fascinating. There goes my theory, but I guess it is kind of the same anyway. The universe is infinite on the time spectrum either way. Thanks for the update on the dynamics of the big bang.
