Its proven the moon is moving ever further from the earth.
*Only about an inch a year they say.

Now they actually know the distance to the moon to within a few inches. Apollo 11 astronauts left an array of corner mirrors on the moon. A corner mirror is three mirrors arranged like a corner of a box, all at right angles to each other. Such a mirror reflects light directly back toward the source of the light. Scientists shine a laser at the moon, and measure the time it takes to reflect back. They can measure this time to within a tiny fraction of a second. So they deduce the distance to the moon (at any given time) to within a few inches.

The moons effects the tides, gives us illumination at night and performs countless other tasks.

But how strong is the moons gravitational pull?
The further away it gets the less pull it will have.
Eventually its effects on the tides will deteriorate to a point where it will no longer effect them.
*Will this cause the end of the world?
I thinks so.

*Will it cause the earth to topple from its axis?
*Will life cease to exist with out the moon?
*Can anyone help with this discussion?

It's true that the moon is moving away from the Earth and without the moon, Earth's rotation would become unstable. But IIRC, the sun will expand and destroy the Earth before the moon has time to move away far enough for that to happen.

but perhaps the effect of the moon is already deteriorating causing shiftting climates, tsunamis and freak storms?

Maybe its already happening

- Space 1999 - the moon rips away from us and leaves earth in devastation.

Not heard this theory but there is a theory in astronomy called Entropy - the basic end to our universe. Will it happen today ? tomorrow?

Will you step in front of a bus in the morning? Crash your car?

What do we really know?

It seems that some of the posts here dwell so much on the "end of days" or our imminent demise.

Does no one ever look at the majesty of our universe and say - its a good day to LIVE

Im sorry but i watched my daughter go to sleep tonight and thought - its about life - not darkness

its about life - not darkness

this is entirely true, but to understand life we must know darkness otherwise it won't appear as great as we think.
life will seem like one long pointless endevour.
