so i dont know how many of you were watching the State of the union address by president Bush, but in one of his lengthier sentences(actaully the
whole speech was pretty well composed and recited) he made mention about being vehemently opposed and thinking that it should be illegal and strongly
condemned was about human cloning and animal human hybrids or chimeras as we know them.
Well anyway the point of this post is to see if of those of you who watched it, you also noticed that when bush made mention of that, the uniformed
members of the military sat their with a rather guilty look on their faces.
Maybe im reading to much into it or being a little over imaginative but I could have sworn from the looks on thier faces that they have already been
succesful in some of those areas bush was strongly opposing tonight.
Some feedback please.

This is what President Bush said during his speech:
A hopeful society has institutions of science and medicine that do not cut ethical corners, and that recognize the matchless value of every life.
Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or
implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our
Creator -- and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale. (Applause.)

Which came from this website C-Span: State of th Union
Address
You are correct in saying human-animal hybrids. Indeed it is quite intresting that he mentioned this. But I do not recall the camera panning over to
the Generals; I was watching NBC so could be depending upon what news channel.
I did notice though throughout the speech they along with judges remaind neutural and barely showed expression: applause.

I certainly did catch that. I found it to be both disgusting and intreaguing, because (although I obviously don't know of every stem cell related
conversation) I have heard of people wanting to clone animals, wanting to clone people, but never have I heard of anyone wanting to mix the two.
Human/alien hybrids I have heard of, yes. But not what he spoke of.
What goes on in the dark side of the mind of that man? From how it sounded to me, this was something that had been on his mind, and perhaps even more
than on his mind, maybe he had had some sort of too close of a call with some .............situation - *shiver*. He certainly was vehemently opposed
to it, though wasn't he?
I wonder if whatever it was that even brought that up is the basis of his opposition to stem cell research, even for purposes of finding cures for
diseases such as alzheimers, parkinsons, etc.......
IMO, he throws around the term, "Our Creator" much too loosley, and uses it to cover many situations. At least whenever it suits him, or for lack
of a better term.
I had pretty much forgotten that until you brought it up. Very interesting, and someone ought to get to the bottom of it,
However, I did not notice (perhaps I wasn't paying attention, or was watching a different network - ABC) that didn't show the military looking
guilty. As a matter of fact, I don't think that I particularly noticed the military at all.
Sometimes it was hard for me to notice many in the audience unless the camera was right on them, for the two women in front in the bright red dresses.

Im not certain but I think what the moron was getting at was growing human organs in animals such as pigs for replacement surgeries. They put pig
heart valves in people in fact pig flesh is closely related to human flesh. Of course he was probably talking about all those military experiments
gone wrong.

Does this not remind you slightly of the serpo thread....hybrids , cloning, etc
Is this a way of denouncing such practices before the masses are aware of whats going on?
I did say on a wild side note....

the network I was watching was CBS, I dont know if they had different cameras or were all feeding off the same camera's but when he made mention of
those practices and his belief in our creator it did a nice pan of the military personal and of the supreme court justices.
The military personal def did have a peculiar look on their faces(seriously it was a really guilty look) while the justices just look stoic.
Solar you might be perhaps right but I dont think that those medical procedures the growing of organs or xenotransplantation would illicit such an
apparantly passionate response from the president.

speech?
As far as I recall on human-animal hybrids, yes, they've been successful, but never been permited to go beyond the embyro stage, or, indeed, past a
stage of a few cells. Usually what is meant by these sort of hybrids is where they take the egg cell of one species and inject the genome of another
into it (removing the egg cell's nuclear genetic material), not 'man-monkeys' or all island of dr moreau style.

Bush was only trying to get his message of "God" for the religious rights in his message.
The truth of the matter is that other advance nations in the world are doing remarkable advances with the used of human cells and possible treatments
of diseases, while here in the US the only thing that students in universities are allowed to do is play with a couple of stem cells and make ears and
noses.
Because the restrictions on using them as long as is government grants.
Many specialist in the US has gone abroad to work on other countries and do research.
US pharmaceuticals do not want cures only remedies so as long as they are lobbying in Washington Bush can kill to birds with one shot make the
religious rights happy and kill any research that can take away money from the drug industry.
Compare to other countries in the world we are staying behind in research.

Possibly he was trying to rally the sheeple with thoughts of oh crap they might do that. Its not like it matters he also called for funding to fight
diseases, diseases the american government probably created.

I really think that when he said "Animal/Human hybrids" he meant more simple things not half human, half animal creatures. He meant things like
growing human body parts in animals.
Although if that isn't true, then he may be hinting at something far more strange...

He might have been pointing toward the already illegal gene splicing where one mixes (Im not an expert) genes from stuff to other stuff to take on so
and so's characteristics
Its already happened and has been banned and lotsa cover and all that good stuff though some people still do it

He says a lot of interesting things like that, I think he is refering to things he knows about that are speculated on on sites like this one here.
Maybe trying to alleiviate any future wrong-doings even.
My non-serious side would win out every time if I had to read stuff like that on air, I'd be smirking all over the place. 'no but we already have
done it, it's pointless! you should all go just go home'

My father was in WW2 and in Germany. When he and the units involved with going into Dachau and a few of the Nazi horror camps they alledgedly found
documents and the like that "suggested" the nazis with doctors like Mengella (spelling) and some others were already attempting human animal hybrid
work .I am not sure whether to believe it or not but it is interesting none the less.

I think that the military were thinking something on the lines of: "This nutcase is the CinC of us all? We. Are. SO. Screwed."
That or: "Is he going to send us in to find hybrid WMDs now?"

so what are the mad scientists going to cook up in the lab?
We're already hearing about mammoth's being grown... so why not Dinosaurs?
Or new generation of animal soldiers? Spider soldiers? Cockroach? Ant? All with a highly resistant exo-skeleton.
Does this mean the monsters are coming?
I can see this going all Alien / Weyland-Yutani bioweapons division gone wrong...
