The Senate confirmed Samuel Alito to be the 110th Justice of the Supreme Court in a 58-42 vote:

FOX News

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted 58-42 on Tuesday to confirm Samuel Alito to the nation's highest court, putting to bed the most partisan Supreme Court nomination battle in recent memory.

Only four Democrats joined 54 Republicans in support of Alito. Of the court's present justices, only Clarence Thomas received a slimmer margin of victory, 52-48, but even then received the votes of 11 Democrats who broke party ranks.

Excellent news! It's a shame he didn't get more votes due to partisan politics, but, hey, what does it really matter? You just need to win by one and he got more than that!

I agree that partisan politics is a sad state of affairs. Instead of these labels "Republican" and "Democrat" deciding how this country is run, the country should be run on what's best for the country. And, I for one, do not think this is what's best for the country:

"Alito is widely expected to be friendlier to presidential power arguments."

But, it is also interesting that FOX chose these words as if they realize that most moves by the White House are to gain executive power, not necessarily to combat terrorism.

Another nail in the coffin of this great country. Yeah, all we need are more people who are friendly to presidential power. The president needs more power... Yeah, that's right...

This is great new indeed, its a shame this highly qualified man was put through the partisan politics gauntlet. And I for one do think that his nomination is in the best interest of the country

...if you are unhappy about the power of the President talk to FDR, not Justice Alito.

Justice Alito is a wise and fair man. A true American.

As long as he doesn't let his personal views get in the way of being fair.
