It is wierd, because when you ask people what ETs would do if they were here, most of the time they say that they would study us and try not to disturb our evolution.

At the same time they dismiss UFOs/alien sightings because there is not enough proofs..

In any event... there is no proof.

Would we survive? It depends on the nature of their "suddenly showing up" I suppose.

Most people anticipate that there are ET's out there, there would be no catastrophic societal melt-down most people think. If they want to trade their free-energy-bars for twinkies, then it'll work out just fine.

In my view, and of many people I've talked with, if they show up suddenly, the stock exchanges would collapse - people would want cash because they don't know what would happen -. The crash would be phenomenal, and would trigger a world-wide economic crisis. Our civilization would collapse. Don't forget that markets are anticipations of the future : if you have no idea what's going to happen, markets will crash..

Most of our values would have to be revised.. We would be lost like never before.

If they want to show up, they would probably do it slowly, to give us enough time to digest new concepts.

So I would say that if we had the definite proof, as you say, our civilization would already be gone..

That's exactly the problem with this subject. We may be dealing with an very intelligent species with very advanced technology. If they don't want to show up, they can, and we will probably never know for sure that they're here. You cannot deny that this is a real problem.. You can say that there is no absolute proof, but you cannot say they're not here either.

Wasnt there a thread here awhile ago that was saying that movies and stuff today are already starting to get people to accept the idea of aliens coming to earth?
