Democrats and Republicans alike are adept at making decisions without letting the facts get in the way, a new study shows.

Article on LiveScience.com

And they get quite a rush from ignoring information that's contrary to their point of view.

Mainly I think this shows they certainly never let real facts get in the way. It has always seemed as if they literally make it up as they go along. Just forget the facts as long as what they say gets the desired results. Who cares if ignoring the facts could negatively impact people’s lives? Who cares if their fabrications cause divisiveness and contempt between us? Their in it for the rush and the emotional high. Something like a runners high from the endorphins produced by the brain. Similar thing here I think.

I wonder if there is any solution to this though. They probably start out decent enough, but at some point become addicted to rush they get as they invent history. At first they justify by thinking it’s for our own good and then at some point they stop caring and it becomes a game. It’s at that point they become dangerous to us and the rest of the world. I’m sure this is true of all leaders worldwide. I would doubt it is just an American phenomenon.

The test subjects on both sides of the political aisle reached totally biased conclusions by ignoring information that could not rationally be discounted, Westen and his colleagues say.

It’s easy for me to imagine them laughing at us for how stupid we are after one of their carefully choreographed performances like the Alito hearings. Both the Democratic and Republican leaders have a good laugh about how well they performed afterward.

well; i cant disagree with the study; its absolutely correct

my opinion is that their rush comes mostly from knowing they have ultimate power over everyone else and can do almost anything they please with no repercussions to their actions

i personally would get a huge rush out of feeling so important and letting my ego soar to hights a spaceship could not achieve lol

they are arrogant beyond belief; i have yet to see any powerful person exert humility towards poor people like myself

in fact; im almost sure they hate people like me with a passion; just because i happen to randomly be born into a poor family
im almost certain they view people like me as inferior and probably sub-human , and undeserving of any respect

they certainly treat poor people this way; in every facet of life
as if they are "Above Us" and "Smarter than Us" and "Better than us"

its no wonder i look at them with contempt; they have never done anything to benifit anyone except themselves

they lie to us by saying "if you work hard, you will make it" but the reason it is a lie is because of this
Look at any person who busts their butt daily at McD's cleaning nasty toilets, look at any person who digs ditches every day, this is true hard work; yet they never make it; 99.99999999% of them are stuck with crap jobs their entire life; barely making it paycheck to paycheck; their savings after 50years is something like a debt of 20,000$ to the banks, and they die passing debt on to others

do you call that "achieving success"?
is this the pay off for a life of hard work?

and then theres people like paris hilton; who will never have to struggle to make it her entire life; she was born into wealth; and she doesnt know anything about the reality the rest of us face
shes arrogant and sees people like me as lesser sub-human species

this is not really an assumption on my part; it is something i learned by observing their behavior and analyzing their statements and actions

if the "elite" treated the "average" person with Respect; perhaps the average people would not resent them
but their increasing arrogance has brought them in a curious prediciment

people like me; who seek to become involved in politics; wish to tax people like her 99% of their money and reduce the tax burden on fellow poor people

i doubt us poor people could Ever gain any power
but we can be hopeful i suppose

how many senators or legistlators were dirt poor when they ran for office? how many governers? presidents?

Very Very Few, if any

they say you have to be rich to get into office *to afford the Campaign*

you have to "know people" and "have $$$" to make any differance, and people who have so much money are distracted from reality so easily by their huge massive wads of $$$ ; they quickly forget 1000s of facts in favor of their own egotistically scewed point of view

you could call me egotistical; but im a no-body poor person; any egotistical behavior i could express would be easily dwarfed by the in-born egotism of the "elite"

perhaps i am wrong about 2 or 3 cases; but im fairly certain this is an accurate summery of the current state of affairs in the world Today
*and this probably applies to all time frames thru history

the poor have always been on the short end of the stick; even tho we outnumber the "elite" 99 to 1

the only reason they have gotton away with spitting in our faces and laughing at us; is because we allowed them too

of course; if we did ANYTHING agianst them; they would put us in jail on trumped up charges or destroy our lives in any other number of ways

thats why most people feel powerless to affect any change in this screwed up unfair system; because the police forces who have GUNS, will brutally opress us if we attempt any action agianst the "elite"

what if 20million american poor folks marched on washington DC and demanded a new gov't of 99% poor people???

dare i say they would instigate a riot and then proceed to open fire w/rubber bullets and tear gas on the massive crowds? possibly bringing in the military and any other police they could muster?

im fairly certain the "elites" would do anything to stay in power; even have us shot with real bullets
and everyone knows they have the biggest stash of mercenaries and weaponry,

Its no wonder we feel powerless; because theres really nothing we can do without getting shot or arrested

maybe im just really tired tonite and just blabbing complete stupidity, but i doubt it
im sure most people would agree with me, but i dont know

ill have to wait and see how bad i get flamed i suppose
lol
i certainly hope i dont get flamed, i dont like being burnt
but hey its the internet; someones always gonna disagree
thats a fact lol

but all this i have typed; this is why i think the politicians ignore facts; because they are arrogant and see us 99% poor people as inferior sub-human species whom the elite were "born to rule" and they see us as totally retarded (Even tho it was the poor people who invented and built almost every technology in use today)

they think they have a right to lie; cuz plato said they did *and yes plato did say the rulers of the state are the only ones with the right to lie*

thats why they are the way they are; because their $$$ corrupted them with arrogance you and I could never imagine

anyways Vote a Poor man into office!
thats all i gotta say

I think us poor folks have a better handle on what's going on.
Partly because it affects us the most. They, the elite insulate themselves from their bad decisions.
So there is lack of concern. I think there was a time where politicians were volunteers, they weren't paid.
Politicians are very driven people or just happen to be folks with a lot of money, or from the world of business. Those people don't know what it's like to have no money left for the next 2 weeks after paying rent and bills and food
(beer too:roll
, it sucks, and your stuck.
People who work should at least get more than minimum, or at least a wage that keeps pace with inflation, instead of having your money become worth less than in times past.
I also think post secondary education should be tax supported for anyone who wants to go, tax the rich a bit more.
I know people will disagree with me on some things, but the system is broken as seen by a lot of people, and as for the rich, well, they're rich $$$.

This sure proves they are capable of the conspiracies they are suspected of and would have no remorse about it.

they lie to us by saying "if you work hard, you will make it" but the reason it is a lie is because of this

I agree. I think most of us work hard but not many of us really make it anywhere near the top. Don't get me wrong I'm not even close to a socialist point of view but it would be nice if the playing field were more level. The deck is certainly stacked against anyone not from the right family or if you attended the wrong school, no matter how capable we are.

I'm sure that a big part of it is their delusions of grandeur. We elect them to represent us and then their arrogance leads them to believe we are not capable of making our own decisions. Look how much information they withhold from us. Every time I watch C-Span I want to throw up. They act like a bunch of immature children and then have the nerve to judge us!

A great example of what I’m saying happened too me last year. A large powerful corporation bought out a company I at one time had an account with. I had canceled the service nearly two months before this company took over and had paid all monies owed in full. Then this company starts calling my unlisted home number threatening me with legal action if I did not pay them again even though I had proof that I had made the final payment. They refused to even look at my cancelled checks or the paid in full receipt I had. They got so brutal with my wife on the phone I called the Attorney Generals office and e-mailed them the information and informed them I had the proof in hand. They responded that they could not and would not take action unless there were enough complaints to establish a pattern and informed me that this was a company known to be honest. Then they gave me contact information for the previous company and I had to let them know that this company no longer existed and they had completely wrong info. They did not even know the company had been taken over. They then sent me a threatening e-mail implying I had done something wrong and the harassing phone calls continued. I then paid them – AGAIN !!! to protect my credit rating. I asked the AG how many complaints it would take to establish a pattern. I had found 5 others in the same boat in one day that were willing to file complaints. They stopped responding to my inquiries and the company was never even called regarding the double billings even though it had happened to many residents. Possibly hundreds.

The rest of the story – I own a small business. This same year I was fined $7,500.00 by this same AG based on two false complaints filed by one of the richest men in town. I have over 6000 regular customers who average 3 purchases a year from me and in five years have never had a single complaint other than this jerk who never actually paid me anything. Not one dime. This exact same man tried to cheat me out of $1,800 3 days after I moved here with a classic bait and switch. This one man apparently has more power in his little finger than hundreds of other citizens because he is rich.

3 months after this it comes out this AG had bought a bunch of stock in a company that the Governor had asked him promote to the state for a contract. He ended up resigning in shame and may yet go to prison. In all of this I never found an honest person who could help me fight this huge corporation who had defrauded me an possibly hundreds of others out of money they were never owed. To this day they have, with the aid of the state turning a blind eye, gotten away with it. I often wonder what kind of political donation it must have took to get an AG to risk everything to protect them. When they investigated this AG they said that he had only made about one hundred thousand dollars off the deal and that it was not enough money to pursue action or ask him to resign. NOT ENOUGH MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He resigned because the local news, bless their little hearts, made it so uncomfortable he had to resign.

None of this could have happened without the involvement of both parties. You could not pay me enough to join a political party. They are all corrupt. They keep everyone so busy arguing over which party is right that many are blind to the fact that they are the same. None of them care about us. They hate us. If they thought they could get away with it they would take away the vote in a heartbeat. They think we are to dumb for our opinions to matter. They will promise anything to get elected then they ignore the people they are supposed to represent. As long as they can keep the right and left at each others throats they know they can do whatever they want. It’s all a charade. Many here on this board would label me wrong because they are brainwashed into blindly following their party leaders. All they do is repeat what they are told to say by some powerfull person who would not give them the time of day if they did not want something.

Amen, Blaine. Both are sides of the same coin, with the same end game.

This type of thing is so characteristic of what it says in our Declaration of Independence regarding untolerable forms of government. Catch this:

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
