In your opinion what the best remake of a song you've ever heard. Maybe even with the remake eclipsing the original.

My vote goes to Metallica's remake of Bob Seger's Turn the Page.

A close second is a tie between The Who's and Rush's remake of Summertime Blues.

For the most part I think remakes suck large 95% of the time.

So what's your choice?

Peace

John Lennon - Imagine....

probably one of the greatest songs ever written. Steven Tyler's remake of it was amazing. Hands down my favorite for remake of a song.

Off the top of my head, I have to agree with Dr. Love; Metallica - Turn the Page.

I'm gonna say Halleujah, originally done by Leonard Cohen. Jeff Buckley's version so astonishingly heart breaking.

Also, All Along The Watchtower. It was such a good cover that Bob Dylan does it the Hendrix way at gigs. That's gotta be good for the maker to copy the copier.

Dr Love, as soon as I saw the title of this thread, Metalica popped into my head for Turn The Page. For those of you lucky enough to have seen the video (uncut) before MTV yanked it...brilliant!

So, for my second choice, also by Metallica, is their remake of Blue Oyster Cult's Astronomy.

Good stuff.

Johnny Cash covering a NIN song, Hurt. The video was also very good. Especially when young Cash, disappears into the shadow.

Quiot Riot's version of Com'n feel the Noise

Racer's live cover of Detroit Rock City was cool when Bruce and Paul played the guitar solo in harmony with their teeth

All along the Watch Tower has to be the best though. Hendrix did a great cover of 'Hey Joe' too.

Alice Donut's cover of Billy Joel's 'Only the Good Die Young'.
Love that hair-dryer solo.

Oh yeah, the Butthole Surfers cover of 'The One I Love' (REM) is great too.
