I just picked up an old radio Scanner.

And I've got no idea how to use it.

www.rigpix.com...
That's the scanner. It's my Dad's old one, I found it packed away in the garage.
How do I use it? If anyone here's from Melbourne, Oz, what are the police frequencies?

how old is it?

It's an older digital.
I'd try hunting down a manual on the net...maybe someone was kind enough to make a pdf.

YOu can pretty much set it on scan mode, and figure out who talks on what frequencies, You have to catch'em talking...but you might hear something interesting.

Problem is, most communication system have been upgraded, and you may hear nothing..!

Well it was only last year my Dad was listening to the Police on it, so it should still hear them I'd think.
I press "Search" and it just goes up the numbers on the left from 1 to 13, but doesn't actually go through the frequncies.

Right..got it.

I think each number was programmed to the freq, of your choice..
and you have 13 choices..A manual perhaps?

I did a quick google, and it didn't look promising for a pdf of a manual.
I did a scanner on sale for 15 bucks though..LOL

Nventual,

I may have found you an owner's manual, in a zip file. I've emailed the person and am waiting for a response. If/when I get it I'll put up a link for you.

Pro 2010 Manual (1Mb)

It's a zip file containg jpg scans of the entire manual.

Hope this helps, if only for reference info.

Good Luck and have fun!

Domestic violence. The neighbours called the police about it, sounds like he hit her, might be drug related.

As far as I know, this is legal to listen to in Australia as long as you're not using it for criminal gain or anything like that.

How do you think certain legal professionals got the title of ambulance chasers. They listen in on the police/fire scanner frequencies. Same goes for news reporters and such.

Enjoy ... you sound like a kid in a candy store!

Wow!...Did ya hear that ... Oh My...

That was some very nice teamwork there.
How's the scanning going now? Anything else worth mentioning? I'd be all ears for a week or so and then get bored, I think. I don't stick with things too long, for the most part. In fact, I'm off to a new thread. Have fun.
