was reading the 1st simpsons series guide the other day. i noticed that while watching a schoolhouse rock parody bart says "this is just to appease
the Gen Xers, we need another vietnam to thin out their ranks." in 1994, it seems as though the current war was being postulated.
I believe its just satire. The idea of "thinning out their ranks" is percieved as something that an older, more conservative person would say, so
when the young Bart says it, its comedy. This type of joke is fairly common on the Simpsons, where something may not be funny in and of itself, but
is comedic when said by that particular character.
yes Matt Groening often have jkes like that, often of the "right wing" idealogy.
In a Simpsons special (don't rememeber which) it showed that they had hidden "NRA" on the cash register (When they price check maggie in the title
scene of every show) , just as a joke.
