what would happen if people knew about 2012

i was thinking to myself and i came up with something. What if people were told about the end of the world and prophecies on liek cnn or something. Im sure it will make people think alot about what might be comming, and since most of the predictions deal with humans actually causing the end of the world could we stop it.

I assume that as we near 2012, the hype will naturally increase. If word about the prophecies is so widespread now, imagine what it will be like in 2010 or 2011.

Most 2012 prophecies that I've researched (including Mayan) do not deal with the end of the world, but in a dramatic change in relation to what it is today.
