I can recommend a really good read Isis...its called '1412', about how a fleet of junks from Imperial China set out to circumnavigate and chart the globe..a century before Magellan! and is suggested that in fact Magellan had used copies of these maps smuggled to Portugal (via Venetian merchants) from China to navigate his route....you'll not be able to put it down once you start!
