Texas River Mysteriously Turns Reddish Orange

Investigators in Dallas are trying to determine what has caused the water in the Trinity River to turn reddish orange twice in one week...

Authorities said the colored water was first reported the day the University of Texas played for the NCAA National Championship in the Rose Bowl. However, officials cannot determine if the two events are related, Local 6 News reported.

The orange water apparently came from treated sewage that was dumped back into the Trinity River.

Officials at the Trinity River Authority said they are not sure how it made it into the water supply.

This came from a sewage treatment plant?

While the article says that Texas officials are telling residents that their drinking water is safe:

...investigators said contaminating water is illegal and they will continue to search for the cause, according to the report.

A few points...

The water was dumped. How long was it in the water supply before it was dumped?

They don't know what it is, but they know that it's safe?

They're trying to determine if the Trinity River is polluted???

Okay, let's skip to YES.

Plus the fact they get...

Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas...etc. and OKLAHOMA!'s wee-wee
Yeah, after New Years Eve it's probably discolored.

P.S. If you were to attempt to fill your swimming pool from the Trinity River - you'd better plan on bringing a tent, and asking friends over for a weekend in block party. There aint much water there.

No kidding, but I read that in some river in Italy, they can detect the presence of coc aine. It comes from the millions of people who pee it out.

So does the orange come from a rash of carrot eating?

I don't know much about the Trinity River, but Val, the point of the story is that the contaminated water was dumped from the water supply.

There is no indication how long it was in the water supply before the decision to dump (a few minutes? hours? days?) and they still don't know what it is..... YET, it is safe?

And this has happened twice?

Was the water supply cut off at any time?

Think about the details of this story under circumstance of a biological or chemical attack. What are the policy implications?

That is really what caught my eye about this story.

I live near the Trinity and see it 3 or 4 times a week. I would say a burnt orange color is a definate improvement over its usual unidentifiable color. It is one nasty river

I call the first Moses! (Titor is so debunked and passé)

Probably some algal bloom from organic material pollution.
