Wondering about low bandwidth mode

I'm wondering about low bandwidth mode. What does it change and is it a waste of points or not.

It omits member avatars and other things that require a lot of bandwidth unnecessary to the real "meat" of the site. It may be useful if you're still using modem, otherwise forget it.
